The problem with Google+ is they did it all wrong. You can not just launch a social network and invite tech guys to invite other tech guys. OMG doors open, everyone is not going to rush in. That shit needs to be pre-populated.
If any of you recall Facebook was for college campuses ONLY. When I joined Facebook was my college only and you couldn't even have friends at other schools. The Facebook ads (flyers) were just ads about rush week and local school stuff. When you think something is exclusive to your college it makes it cooler. "Your school was picked to beta test Google+!"
At this level it is easier to get people to join, its controlled. All you need to do is get enough people to join at the school and when people meet new friends (at school) odds are they will already be there. When its down to 50k people all at the same place its easier. Facebook did this 7yrs ago at my school, after they had most major colleges set up they connected them. You now have a database that contains TONS of college kids from all over the country.
Its an easier sell then, look parents all of your kids are on this thing! Look younger kids all of your old brothers, friends, and people you think are cool are on there! Continue adding the new freshman into the system, let the older kids age into 30 somethings.
Why was google to stupid to figure this out is beyond me. It was like asking us all to join a dating site with no members.
this, but without the college thing.
google doesn't need to go to colleges and go place by place to get people to use it. people know what social networks are and people know who google is. The stupid mistake they made was opening the gate a crack and letting in so many people and following up on it. They should of just opened the network to everyone immediately. Letting in only so many people was a stupid move and people are already moving back because none of their friends are on it. whats the point of letting in so many people if they are just gonna leave anyway. Your whole foundation will be gone by the time they are ready to open to the public. In which facebook will already have copied their ideas making it pointless to make the switch.
