A Private Forum For My Daughter And Her Friends

You might just create the new Facebook for Pre-Teens. You could even call it Preteenbook.com. I say go for it and cash in.

Sounds like 'Crash' :P anything with "preteen" in the name gona get flooded and not necessarily by preeteens. Also when the last time a young girl ever referred to themselves as preteen? You'd be better off doing something like facebook for girls or something since 'girls' or such seem to be the common search term for any preteen/young teen searching for stuff online like 'girl games' etc.

on a serious note. it's a bad idea. at that age she should be playing with baby dolls and her kitchen set (see what i did there)

bad idea.

I can just see this on the news one day.

"Daughter's private forums turn nasty as one parent sues Father over defamation and slander."

And lets be honest here... they are 10 years old right now.

When they turn 13 and are total bitches this is just has bad idea written all over it.

Thanks for all the serious responses. Great info on locking down forums from spam and issues to think about.

+ reps to kblessinggr & turbolapp (then I ran out or I would've rep'd to others for providing information to consider as well!).

I think the thread has run it's course!

I think, now I could be wrong, but I think most forum software requires you to be 13 or older. Take a look at the legal aspect of it; and, to be honest, for the reasons stated above, it's just not a good idea. The internet is a big place for small children, even if it is a contained environment.

Someone had to post it

You realize of course in regards to "Spam", robots.txt does not do jack shit, since spammers and the bots that spam, ignore that file, and legitimate services that obey robots.txt (which is for spidering not saying 'don't post here'), wouldn't be posting spam anyways.
*sigh*

i'll play devil's advocate as a parent:

"What's that honey? Jenna's dad setup a forum where you can post private messages with your friends and share pics and things? Can I see it please? No? What's the double-u double-u double-u AOL keyword to go there on the internetz?

Wait- I don't have an account? Who is responsible for granting access?

Oh- Jenna's Dad?

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?

Here's an experiment, below is a perfectly innocent picture, what was the first thought in your mind?

:P Expect that thought from just bout everyone but the kids if you choose to continue forth with the forum.

I have two daughters about that age. I'm planning on locking them in a closet with 2 nintendo DS's, a bag of chocolate chip cookies, and some water.

I'll let them out when they are 30.

No - I don't plan to continue with setting up the forum!

Too much hassle and potential bad outcomes.

Thanks for all the enlightenment, The WickedFire Way (where else could you go to get technical details, potential legal issues, concerns and issues to think about, insinuations of being a perv, pics and video of bad outcomes, etc.. all in one thread! :) )!

Thanks Turbo - Good Advice. That is why I keep putting it off. She just doesn't understand my concerns. I'm still not sure if I'll do it or not as it seems risky or could even turn into a major pain.

Damn too late.
