Here's the problem.............
Most of the guest blogging out there that's done is done pretty poorly overall. It amounts to some guy posting a pretty irrelevant article on a pretty irrelevant blog with a few links in the bio box.
For every 1 quality guest blog post (and there are plenty out there) there are 100 guest blog posts being done by a guy in India or PH for 25c/100wds that are very much flooding websites, even higher quality blogs. So, because of that, Google is going to go after the low quality guest posts.
Do you want me to explain to your mother that SAPE links and guest blogging are going to be devalued in the future? You're going to buy me a plane ticket to do this? Sweet.

Never thought I'd see SAPE and Guest Blogging not only in the same sentence, but categorized together. Google's gonna devalue ERRTHANG! Ruinous Epicness Incoming!

Guess I should have been clear and said "Low quality guest posting", most of what I see out there is unreadable, irrelevant garbage.
Google's shown in the past that they do not have the ability to accurately determine whether a site is low quality or high quality. This isn't going to change anytime soon.

You're right there is a certainly a way to go about guest blogging all wrong.
Good blogs relevant to your niche have some level of moderation done by the site owner, and because of this its impossible slipping ESL crap through.]These are the sites to go after and I think there is a ton of longevity with links from them.
Sites that post anything you shoot at them aren't really guest blogs, more like article directories in disguise. Easy to spot them, they often accept articles on every topic under the sun. I think a lot of people waste time with these sites thinking they're getting a guest post when in reality its probably not looked at much differently than a general article directory.
Regarding the link at the end, it would be wise now to put your link in the content of the post now and have it posted without an author bio, as if the site owner wrote it. This is what I am doing now and I have not had trouble with it.
