I need 2kw for about 1.5 hours each day (3 x 30 minute runs):
1. run well pump to top up water tank
2. cycle aquaponics system
3. run chest freezer
4. push drinking water through RO system
5. charge up all the rechargeable gadgets

1 & 2 take most of the power. 3, 4 & 5 could be done with solar but since the generator is running I run all the systems off it.

Hard to get that kind of power from a solar energy system. A small diesel generator is a snap. A couple drums of diesel fuel last a long time and can be stored for years without going bad (unlike gasoline).

You can easily muffle a generator to have no signature out there. Same with the IR signature.

For water, you can also do a roof rainwater system into a reverse osmosis system , no need for a heavy duty well pump :)

I have a big rain water catchment system. Keeps us supplied with water 6 months out of the year. Runs out in dry season so I have to use the well.

Planning to put the generator in a small building and muffle it as much as possible. Still think it will be audible from outside the property.

My area of hawaii, most homes consist of water catchment. But unfortunately here in S. California; it rarely rains. I blame the jews personally... lol kidding. But back to the thread subject, I have little faith in both our government and our currency. Im doing nothing though to build alternate currencies (gold, silver, etc) - I probably should, but Ive yet to do so
 
What this planet needs right now is a way to tie the Bitcoin to precious metals.

Anyone who can come up with such a plan gets to be the next major world leader.

Ok, on the topic, I don't think gold and silver are going to be useful as money in the US except perhaps on a very limited and local scale. Wealth preservation yes, but as money for commerce no. Laws and taxes prevent it in the US. In other countries gold can and often is used a medium of exchange along side paper money. So I guess it's the same answer: Get out now bro!

This pact means the BRICS nations will trade Oil in their local currencies instead of the reserve used in the past (USD).

Thursday signed two pacts to spur trade in their local currencies and agreed on a joint working group to set up a development bank that will raise their economic weight globally.

The oil will be there, without even counting our own reserves.

My logic about the end of oil comes from if Nations stop using the USD as the reserve currency, the US will be forced to discover an alternate & superior form of energy.

Thus the downfall of oil.

Oil shale. Still oil, just not imported. Apparently there are very nasty side effects from fracking, but if the US couldn't import oil then most of the effort would go into oil shale and not renewables, wouldn't it?

I'm a pepper, call me crazy, call me paranoid, I don't give a fuck. I have a large family that depends on me and I can't afford to not prepare (Dresden already explained what prepping is). And now the big question some of you might be asking: preparing for what? For everything and for nothing. Let me explain. I don't expect the fucking world to end, but what about if I get somehow killed, or injured in a way I can't provide for my family? What about unemployment (not my case, but I bet if some WF members would loose their jobs tomorrow they would shit their pants without knowing what to do: prepare fuckers). What if the dollar really collapses? The Euro was and still is on life support for all that ignore the situation in Europe.

So I prepare for anything that might come. It's like having car insurance. You don't buy a car insurance because you know you are gona crash (unless you are some fucking physic or shit). You buy a car insurance to be ready in case something bad happens. And that's the essence of preparing.

So mock all you want about Lukep's post, or call the people concerned with this no more trading oil for US dollars shit idiots showing your supreme wisdom on economics (thought this was a gay webmasters forum anyway), but the truth is nobody can assure tomorrow will be better. Nobody that knows about the world dependency on oil can sleep ok.

But hey, if nothing is gona happen what the fuck do you care, keep on faping while eating fucking cheerios while I get my shit together in case one day you try to steel my stuff because you were too arrogant to prepare thinking you knew it all. If that day comes, in order to protect my family I will make sure no threat even reaches my porch.

You made a direct comparison of the health of the Oil industry to the Health of the USD. While I share with you the hope that alternative fuels arise to displaces and destroy the oil industry, your comparison is still utter crap.

I even agree that these sources don't mention anything about the BRICS not wanting to cease trade for oil with USA... But you're totally not addressing a few major factors here...

1. The many Trillions of US Dollars taken out of play when a BRICS nation stops using those dollars for the Oil trade. This floods the markets with useless USD and causes inflation. (This is the "poor health" of the dollar part.)

2. I see nothing to stop the all-powerful oil lobby from controlling congress like they have for the last almost 100 Years. In that time hundreds of alternative fuel sources have been proposed and many even fully developed, but because the Oil Lobby controls congress and therefore which energy infrastructures get federal funding, the superior form of energy you are hoping for will never come.​

Keep in mind that NO form of energy has been implemented in any widespread way without tons and tons of government Subsidies. Oil being the most obvious example, but this is true all the way back to the freaking Dutch windmills and perhaps beyond. Infrastructure costs a lot of damn money... And until a miracle happens, the OIL INDUSTRY controls that money.

Got it yet?

So in short: The USD is in trouble. Oil; not so much.

My prep & economic collapse fantasies used to be exactly the same as yours. I imagined it would be an urban sprawl version of Man vs. Wild or a slightly toned down version of Mad Max but with just as many guns.

My wild fantasies were put to an end when I discovered a blogger that goes by the name of Ferfal. Here's an article worth reading that he wrote about his survival experiences during Argentina's economic collapse. I imagine its a good indicator of what it would be like in the USA.

Probably not as much shooting as you might have hoped.

Just read half of this. It's actually a MORE chilling scenario than "Mad Max" - it notes how the bad guys will be stealthy and you often won't know they're coming until they're literally inside your house. References to poisoned dogs (very frequent occurrence) and ambushes when you leave/enter your home.

Most sheeple think a societal collapse leads to MINDLESS chaos, because they expect everyone to panic. And while everyone is panicking you think that you'll get your wits together and come out the winner in this craziness.

In your dreams.

Bad guys "have their wits together" too, and probably much more so than you. Criminals (and gangs, large and small) are always the ones best prepared for these types of scenarios - in fact they usually benefit from a societal collapse (which is probably why they try to contribute it).

It will be more of a "controlled chaos" where savvy thugs quickly establish local "order". Think torture rather than chaos; the criminals have all the time in the world to think up of, plan and carry out horrendous acts (like raping, torturing and murdering a widow and her children) since law enforcement is pretty much non-existent.

As society rebuilds itself, openly criminal enterprises will establish more of a foothold in this post-society and our country will start looking more like Russia (where 40% of the economy is controlled by the Mafia).
 
Invest in the Indian Ruppee quickly!!!! the USD will be worth about 0.0001 Indian Ruppe in just a few years :p
