My account manager says she wants me to put their pixel on my landing page, to get info on my traffic.

She says:
"I was hoping you would do me a favor and place the below pixel on your top three pages for us so that we can collect more data on traffic"

Has this ever happened to anyone here?
I dont really think is good idea. Im not exactly sure what type of data they can get from it. But i dont know why they would have to do this.

what do you guys think about this?

You've impressed your AM to the point they want to know all of your traffic sources, keywords, etc.

Adamantly refuse and consider requesting a new AM and/or company

no don't do it, unless you want to risk your campaign being copied.
hey, it's a dog eats dog world. who knows?

Start sending all of your traffic to another affiliate company, and then see what they say.

I agree. There is no reason your aff manager needs any of this.

I would make sure you redirect through a different domain using http refresh so nothing gets passed.

They are either trying to use your info to start an in-house campaign or to help other affiliates, neither of which is any concern to you.

I agree with Kunk

This is complete idiocy, I had the same thing happen to me when I inquired about how shitty an offer was converting. I don't mess around with a Network AM, I have a pretty solid relationship with this Advertiser's internet marketing team... Anyways, He asks me if I would be down for placing a few pixels so they could see what kind of traffic I was dealing with, and to (haha) BETTER my conversion ratings.

Instant alarms go off - If they know how I get my traffic, and even get hints to my strategies, they can simply utilize them in-house to garner the benefits.

I I have a user coming to my page xxx.com/lp.html?keyword=cars

and the visitor clicks to goto the merchant's landing page, will they know the user came form cars? are the variables passed on to them?

Had this happen to me before. I had a site that was getting traffic that converted really well...and my AM back then, wanted me to put google analytics on my sites and that SHE would "provide" me with the code. lol .... being really new to the AM game back then, I got that gut feeling that something wasnt right. It had never crossed my mind about all that in-house campaigns and stealing of strategies.

I never ended up putting that code on my site, she later was either replaced or I was dropped, because there was one month where I took a break from Affilate marketing all together. I had a feeling she dropped me like how you would drop a campaign that doesnt make money.. puahaha.

This doesn't even make sense! Placing a pixel on someone's inside pages (that's what it sounds like to me?) won't give them referrers, or any other data besides how many people are viewing the page but not clicking through to the offer. Ask them what data they're looking to collect, and then post that answer here. If they say referrers, hell no. If they say something else, they're lying, and I'd like to hear that excuse.

What network?

I asked what data they were looking for, so ill see what they have to say. I dont want to say the network, but its one of the bigger ones.
I let you know what the reponse is.

Have you seen what Google Analytics can collect on your site with one single line of code? A pixel can go a long way these days.

Don't request a new AM, get another affiliate company to send your money to.

Even if it is just the AM looking to steal some keywords to give to other clients (or take for themselves) the company still is ultimately responsible for hiring a crooked manager. Just run from them all together as I don't think there is a possible legit reason they would need this information. Every scenario is a bad one.

The instinct is to say no however I say make a deal. Being as it sounds like you have some leverage with them. Tell them sure if they'll let you private label and post data to the offer, also you want to put tracking pixels on the thank you pages for all their offers. Oh and don't forget a bump in payout.

Here's her response:
"It’s a comscore pixel that gives us no other info other than volume. It helps our numbers look better, tracks nothing that you are doing personally doing"

I think comscore tracks demographic information
Internet Audience Measurement and Ratings from comScore Media Metrix

Im not even doing that much volume with them, i dont know why they didnt ask anyone else to do it.

Its probably no big deal, but still dont really want to do it
