I was reading this thread: http://www.wickedfire.com/showthread.php?p=1343#post1343

and I realized that I don't do a very good job of keeping track of incoming money. How do you guys manage this? What programs do you use?

I'd like something that could graph my earnings, so that I could better plan for the future, and see how things are trending. I know that programs like Quicken are good for personal finance, but I'd really love something that could track each of my website's earnings individually.

So yeah, how do you keep track of your money?

Not keeping track of your money will get you in lots of trouble come tax paying time!

Personally... I set aside bank account just for the money earned via online. But using Excel or something similar would work well.

Money or Quicken should have a business version that would be ideal. Not only for taxes, but cash flow and other issues like that are very important for any business.

Those programs are overkill for my business, my expenses are very low (and simple) and I only have like 6 revenue streams.

Yea... for small timers like us that really is overkill. I'd be interested to hear what people like Jon use.

I have all the info I need for taxes, I just don't keep a running tally of alot of things.

Isn't all of your information available at tax time (log into cj and adsense, check all income, put down hosting and domains from those accounts as expensesm, etc)?

Yep, exactly. That's why I've been lazy about keeping a running tally on things.

I suck at Excel, is there a place to download Excel templates for this sort of thing?

I'll check out the business versions of Money and Quicken, I'd honestly thought they were overkill too, but maybe I'll give one of them a try.

Money and Quicken might be overkill, I dont actually use either, but if excel isnt your cup of tea they might be a good alternative. I personally use excel and just keep a basic cash flow chart.

I went through a brief period of graphic my earnings, but i'm not really makin enuff to bother organizing it all nicely.

Making no money certainly has it's benefits.

I just use a simple excel sheet that shows expenses and income. Sort of like a checkbook. Though, I'm new to the business and only have 2 rev. streams. When it gets more complicated I will have to flesh out more details and probably custom code a prog to track stuff.
Maybe then I'll sell it to you guys ;)

Yeah if you're using credit cards Amex really is the best, they break down all your spending by category, makes tax time so much easier
