Addictive Google Maps Game Geoguessr

Can't say I like this game. If they threw you into cities, towns, little villages or something, then it'd probably be pretty cool. I'm sure I'd end up saying to myself, "damn that looks nice, have to put that place on my must-travel-to list". But dumping me on a highway in the middle of nowhere with a pond beside it, and no signs whatsoever is no fun.

GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!

I screwed one up pretty good but managed to get close on the rest. Not bad I guess considering none of them were in the US. This was my second attempt, my first had some weird locations like on a dock in the woods with no way to move and on an empty ferry in the middle of the water (Ferry had a Japanese flag so I got the country right anyway).

Back to work.

I haven't scored 20k yet, but I also don't leave the window while playing. Going to another tab and looking up highways and city names is cheating you phaggots!

Just realized that this game is Carmen Sandiego 2.0.

Keep getting Russia lately, killing my score. Yesterday I got South Africa like 3 times and now I know that country by its' road markings alone; But getting Russia sucks the worst because I can't tell the land on the east side of the country from the land on the west side... Despite being 8,000+ miles away!

Shouldn't I get some points for latitudinal accuracy??

Pretty much anything all burnt, red and desolate looking is Australia from what I've learned.

Haha, I thought that too and then got a burnt landscape in low resolution that turned out to be in the middle of Kansas! If I didn't see the highway sign I'd have just clicked central oz and been done with it. Whew.

They're not all from cars. A couple places I landed was just a still image from user submitted google places. I saw the shadow of the dude crouching with his camera and everything. That explains why some of you found you were unable to move.

Basically I'm expert now.

So... this entire thread is about playing this game? Nothing about deconstructing its genius to profit from it, or clone it, or build a better it, or anything but wasting time on someone else's creation?

Interesting.
