I have 500 sites making me $1-2 a day each

that's $600-800 a day, from adsense.

I never got into auto-blogging... any ideas on why it finally stopped paying out?

On my (I guess you would call them manual?) Blogs when Adsense doesn't work i usually switch to hard goods affy stuff like I'll integrate a BANS or Store Stacker store or use some script to import Amazon or eBay products...

As far as Adsense positioning, I usually do a 468 x 60 followed by a 300 x 250 (all above the fold) and then I end the post with a 300 x 250. That works best for me anyhow. You're probably doing something similar.

One thing I forgot to mention if you're still wanting to try adsense is to switch your theme to something with a black background and grey text like you see here on WF... seems to work at increasing CTR
