Been a while since I posted on here but it is a sunny Friday...

I have been banging around this industry for over 10 years and find some things pretty horrible and I will try to give all you fresh behind the ears, 3 months out of college AM's some advice.

When you ask me to run an offer like TGI Friday's Loyalty Club or Bausch & Lomb sample campaign or insert any other name brand national company/chain - PLEASE do not say "you are getting this direct at the top payout".

It makes you sound stupid.

I understand the entire function of a Affiliate Network is to get between an advertiser and the media delivery and make a percentage. You do serve a function at times, but please try to learn a little about advertising.

The client pays a large agency to manage their online presence. This agency employes media teams to handle the budget and determine media buys. Three levels down from there - you get the offer from a bigger network and then you say to me "you are getting this direct at a top payout".

Stick to rebills - harder to sound stupid with those.

Well said.

To the new AMs, I would add: Realize that it takes time to build an ongoing relationship. A lot of times, this business comes down to the people. I'm not going to run traffic to you just b/c you claim to have an "exclusive with the highest payout".

Compound - I run some offers with guys at a little lower price just because they are not a pain in the ass.

It's always nice not getting bitched at to run campaign X or to send more traffic to Y. You can view CPA networks as a group 'effort' to send traffic together. If you're in a nice network (private or not) that has a good rep then you'll find overtime that the whole relationship will get enhanced and payouts and what not improve over time.

I laugh seeing new offers being put out and 9 out of 10 times they aren't getting the "highest payouts" because there brand new and either a) brokered or b) getting low balled by the advertisers until they send some leads because unless you have a great relationship with the advertiser, they won't be giving you shit.

i had some n00b AM pitch me an offer saying its the top payout... little did he know, he was pitching me my own fucking offer that he snagged from another network thinking i might want to run it

this is the funniest shit i've heard all day

yeah, its funny how some AMs claim they have the TOP most payout on a X offer and then if you ask another network, they can offer +20c and on on, add about 50 c before its TOP payout. So unless you shop for the best, you wont even know about it
