I am starting to dabble into more PPC>AM stuff and a big source of my traffic is from google's content network.

My question is:

Do keywords need to have exact matching, typos, various combinations of key phrases, etc. Will it help since its not a search query and being displayed based on a sites text.

Negative keywords are your friends with the content keyword. Make sure you're not burning money on shit that doesnt convert.

Typos are good Hydrogin, and as long as the keywords are relevant and grouped well, and you have good negative keywords in like imagenesis said, then more will help you catch more sites you may have missed otherwise.

I only use broad matching with the content network and it seems to work well. You can view the placement report to see where your ads are being placed. If you see your ads somewhere you don't want them, then add negative keywords or use exact, phrase match.
