I just started my first campaign on google. My destination URLs are like:

url.com/?kw={keyword}&ad={creative}

I test clicked once to see if it worked. I searched for "free ___ ___ ___", but when I got to my site, the url was: url.com/?kw=___ ___ ___&ad=154

So google removed "free" from the keyword phrase it sent to me.. Is this normal?

Sounds like it could have to do with the match types G uses.

If you have "free ___ ___ ___" and "___ ___ ___", it may match one before the other, depending on the match type it is set up as...

Ah yes, I guess that explains it.

Thanks.

Though I would have thought that google would show the most specific ad possible, I guess not.

DKI inserts the keyword into the ad text or URL, not the actual search query. So if you're using DKI with phrase match or broad match and your keyword is "red widgets", then when someone searches for "buy red widgets" they will see just "red widgets" inserted into the ad text/url.

Oh I see, thanks for the info.

I have a few more questions about DKI.

- Will {keyword} lowercased change my keyword to lowercase as well or will it just take the keywords as they are now in my list? I want the exact same uppercase/lowercase as in my keyword list.

- Say I bid on "xyz items" and "abc" items. Is it possible to only get the first word to be used in DKI? ("xyz" or "abc") so that I can have my ads like so: Free xyz at blabla (without items)

Yes, {keyword:___} will display it to the user with all lower case. And there are also the variations like Keyword, KeyWord, KEYword, etc. But there's no way to specify that you want it exactly as in your keyword list.

No. You might want to set up separate ad groups with non-DKI text if you want to be that specific.
