Affiliate Manager Do's and Don'ts

I encourage you to wear sandpaper pants and gouge your eye out with a bladed dildo.

Can you actually buy those things? I saw one in Seven it was not very nice, the dildo I mean, I own loads of pairs of sandpaper pants...

I must say that infact I did figure that providing the plug in a decent way would immediately debunk any thoughts that the only reason for this thread was such as to enter a shameless plug and contact everyone that came. Thus getting it out of the way seemed easier any more comfortable to everyone.

soooo, you thought that by plugging your network you'd convince us that you weren't plugging your network.

christ, i can't make you look any dumber than you just did.

How to get my traffic:

-Pay me more frequently then any other network I'm with will
-Pay me higher (However, it better convert the same. If I split test the offer on your network...and one I'm with and notice something fishy you can fuck off)
-Be a USEFUL AM. / Be a KNOWLEDGEABLE AM*

* While this is pretty important to me....some thing MUCH more important is DON'T BS. Don't claim to know shit when you don't. Don't claim to have tested a traffic source, when you haven't. I'll take an answer of "I've never worked with it so can't say." over "Yea this source converts, now run this offer on it." when you are talking out of your ass.

-Don't be a douchebag. Seriously. This should fucking go without saying.... but you'd be surprised. My AM at the network I run with the most is a pretty knowledgeable guy, from what I can tell he hasn't bs'd me, but he can be a real PRICK. Does this come into my decision process when determining where to run an offer? You bet it does. I'm not a super affiliate making zillions from AM, but I have my share of traffic. Talking down to me isn't helping your chances.

-Be easy to contact. Be online a decent amount of hours a day. Most of my am's are but for some reason a few of them have been hard to reach. When I'm "comparison shopping" an offer across networks and I can't reach my AM.....I move on.

-Be personable. I completely understand you're probably busy and I won't waste your time....dont waste mine. However, a little small talk can't hurt.

I came on here looking for some legitimate answers.

Maybe you can dig your credibility grave a little faster - it might help

1. Introduction
~How do you like to be contacted for the first time.
~What do you like to know when you an AM contacts you the first time.

2.Updates/Alerts
~What things would you like to be notified on once you are an affiliate?

1. You have no choice but to try and contact them all ways, emails may never reach them and it's good to know you can reach the person you are working with on the telephone as well. Make friends with them, spend some time.. if they work with you for 20mns or 3 years, you will be glad you spend the 10-15mns to get to know them a little.

2. Just be pro-active... people appreciate someone who is quicker than they are.

Sorry about my absences...

I don't really mind the flaming, I got past sulking after the mention of Sandpaper pants... (which made me giggle)

So let's say you get contacted. I call and leave a message. I send you a PM.
What's gonna catch your interest? What it boils down to is money and trust right?

High Payouts Comparisons?
Offer Comparisons?
Case Studies?

This is going to catch my attention:

"Hi this is blah blah blah from XYZ network, I came accross your site and noticed you were running ABC offer, while this is a good offer you might consider split testing a little of your traffic to DEF offer that we have. WE currently have publishers doing <honesty> (a ton of/a decent amount of/a little bit of) volume who are seeing conversion rates in the neighborhood of X%-Y%. We're a relatively new network founded by _____________ who were previously with _________ in _______ capacity. We're {venture backed and recently closed a $2M series B lead by _____ which you can read about here <link>} OR {privately funded and currently going $___/day in revenue, we're happy to provide credit references}. We can offer you $X on this offer which you can preview here <link> and we're open to guaranteeing an EPC. We're happy to pay you weekly via wires. I'd love to talk to you more, you can contact me at (XXX) XXX-XXXX.

Fundamentally unless I knowy you personally, if a 'network' is 2 20 year olds sitting in a room with a grand total of $42k in cash in the company account pulled from a combination of a home equity line on their grandmothers house coupled with seed monies originating from lucrative Cash4Gold money for unwanted high school class rings, by all means good luck and bravo with the effort.

But if you think I or anyone with any common sense is just going to extend some random company credit (which of course is what any of us are doing running traffic to you and getting paid after the fact) you're crazy. It's a matter of risk:reward, there are some campaigns that I'm happily wiling to take 15% less and run it with an organization that I know has cash, financing, years of experience, and 30+ employees.

Of course there are the early adopters, they're either people who know and trust you OR the same people who are back here 90 days later posting "<NETWORK NAME> ripped me off for $40k" threads.

Oh, and if you ever get a hold of my email address and just start spamming me with bullshit because some AM who you partnered with quit from another network and took the rolodex you get added to the "not in a million fucking years" list of people to work with which currently consists of Lindango and others

Excellent advice Sonny! +REP

Do exactly the opposite of what you did. See, I did this unheard of thing when I was an AM called "treating my affiliates right" and they would tell their friends. A few of the networks here do that... C2M... EWA... etc.

No need for pickup lines and bullshit. I told them what we got on it, the bump schedules (if any) and where we got the offer from. What volume rewarded with payment when and how fast, why, etc. That's how you get affiliates - be a good fucking manager and put more time into treating them right than getting more affiliates.

Just remember - spending time to get more affiliates hoping them to be active is NOT a replacement for helping those that are already active. If your business model is like some networks which is get more affiliates than we lose instead of treat them right, you won't last very long.

But what do I know? I'm just a Bofu. :banana_sml:

Thank you for the information BOFU, It was a great addition to this thread. I think that if anyone has any question about what affiliates mean when they say they want to be treated right, they will become well informed after reading your post.

However, I don't understand your calling me out saying you would do the opposite of what I did.

Were you in someway not cared for by me? I haven't really been looking to build the network with affiliates at the moment, I am here to learn first. In fact, I don't think I have contacted any affiliates, just networks.

I appreciate everyone's help. Understand that my intent was to NOT spam this valuable forum, however sorry my attempt was at showing that. I am here to learn what affiliates want so when the time comes, they can be comfortable and profitable from my business.

I wouldn't have started a thread saying "ohhai I work at XYZ.com" I would have left that for the signature.
