Hovering in History

I've always been fascinated by the ekranoplan and I think it has great potential in transportation here in Croatia for the island hopping method. Australians have messed around with the technology since then and have come up with the Wingship series which you can check here:

Wingship

There were 1-2 person aircrafts which flew in the same principle but can't find more about them atm. It was a semi glider that spent very small amounts of fuel while using the "cushion" effect.

I simply could not believe that this, basically a flying car (with a few modifications-forget the modifications just use as-is), has existed this long and yet why aren't these for sale?

Would someone around here with more time on their hands do a kickstarter and get this going.

We're still waiting on the hoverboards, first.

Why didn't the Airgeep catch on? Noisy?

Doesn't catch on because military just scraps it. There are probably the inventions of the next 10+ years scrapped in military (and/or defense company warehouses/shelves). Think of the Apple Mac interface (Windows) - came out of scrapped Xerox research yet changed the face of computing.

Just saying. Tweak it to be more user friendly, little less bulky/noisy, and you can jump in it and go to the store/work. No problem. No Traffic.

A lot less cumbersome and costly than a full fledged helicopter and/or plane - could fit a need.

I think this is good for Border Patrol.

Better than the Ultralights the Contras (sandanistas? I forget) were using with mounted machine guns.

Canada made a flying saucer, eh.

-- This appears to be next in line after the above hovering car, the Piasecki VZ-8 Airgeep, as this is designated the Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar.
