Excellent idea that is scalable. I am just not sure how money can be made from this other than the $1/install payout.

The legal issue...
Once you get your stock out, wait 12-24 hours, then file a police report and say you had a box full of thumb drives that had bad scripts you wrote for a private computer project, and they were stolen.

You had it in the back seat of your car, or you carried them out and sat them next to your car and then went back inside to grab your cell phone, when you came out, the box was gone. No prints to look for, should be quite simple. Police dont care, and wont look for it, but in case something comes back to you, you're covered...

And cant you make a buck off each Firefox + Google toolbar install?

Compile your own installers for something stupid but make it sound cool...

Lets say an installer for "$140-a-day-secret-v3.exe"
In the installer compile as much god damn fine print in the "Agreement" as possible.
At the very bottom list that by installing this program, you agree to also install x, x, x, x, and x."
They will agree and install, just because they are curious as to wtf they just found... Maybe add in a few documents that look like financial data or something that would make the normal person go "holy shit... what is this? ive gotta see"...

make the install install firefox w/ google toolbar - $1
Make the install place home.html file somewhere on the HD, make a custom Google homepage that looks just like the google homepage, but that has randomly rotating affiliate txt offers inderneath the search.
Make 2 logos that look very clean, simple, safe, and web 2.0-like, place them under the google search buttons on the page, make each one an aff link for software that the avg person could find useful...

The installer could just place an e-book in /program files/$140 a day secret/ebook.pdf
with an uninstaller, and maybe 2-3 stupid txt files to make it look more legit. Throw some shit in the start menu so that ppl see it installed something.
In the start menu... menu... add 2 or 3 shortcuts to affiliate http links, like "Get your free xxxxxxxxxx" or whatever...

When the installer is done, have it pop up another custom html file that is on the local drive, make it all pretty, safe looking, and web 2.0-ish, and include something like "Thank you for installing, blah blah blah (make this a paragraph or 2), now that you have installed, you are eligible for xxxxxxx (insert a few aff offers here)...

You can also make a quick little prog that launches after install that looks like an Information dialog for the "money secret" shit...
"Thank you for becoming a $140 secret member (to make it look like it isnt supposed to be free, making it look more legit)... Please enter your name, email, and zip to complete the setup process... Please note: This does NOT need to be the same as the information used to become a member!"

Have it send the results to a server, or fuck I dunno, figure something out to do with it...

Is it possible to make a script that will load data into form fields and submit the form automatically? If so, take the input name, email and zip and have it put into the file, then the file will launch a browser, load an aff offer, input the info, and submit automatically from the users pc. then it can close the window...

I am going to hell. and after this, I have no idea why i cant figure out how to make money on the internet...

This is all very interesting, but ultimately not worth the time, in my opinion. All that work, ordering the USB drives, waiting for them to work, blah blah blah. All that for just a small bit of profit.

Although, if someone really does do this, I definitely want a trip report.

Just like putting a password on a zip/rar file that you share on a torrent site, and having them do a zip submit. by the time they get the file they just want to play with it

this works fairly well in hiphop communities. even more in warez sites.

I have a bunch of ideas for this; however, the cheapest I could find flash drives online was for about $5. This needs to be under $3. I guess I'll keep a watch out in the paper for when Office Max or Best Buy has super cheap (or free) flash drives after mail in rebates.

Also, these flash drives will need to have U3 in order to run Hacksaw, so it has to be new. Not looking good...

Considering that the FBI has contacted jon before, I wouldn't be surprise if they do read this forums...

There's a very strong possibility that the users will actually use the usb drive on multiple computers getting you multiple installs as long as the USB drive actually functions. Most users with USB drives use them for transporting files from one computer to the other so I think if someone actually was using it for its intended purpose you'd get at least 2 installs.

If you could find a software that would allow you to do an incentivized install of it and then whenever you insert the drive into a port it checks the computer to see if the software was installed and if not it pops up a box that says "in order to use this drive on this computer the following program must be installed" followed by a disclaimer and an install now button... you might actually be able to make this work.

I can think of a few programs that will pay $2-$3 for a toolbar install but they don't allow it to be incentivized unless maybe you talk to them and set up a special deal, theres probably something out there somewhere.

lol
I love threads like this. I highly doubt anyone would do this, but its fun to think about either way.

As for the people talking about drive prices, network with people. I know a few people that buy shit overseas, and man is it cheap. I'm sure you can get Chinese USB drives for fucking pennies... Seriously, probably 50 cents a piece.. You just gotta buy a few thousand. And know someone in China. And speak Chinese.

lol
