Alphabet

My first impression was that Alpahbet was the creation of a traded umbrella (conglomerate) so that Google could diversify underneath. I see a lot of talk about domains but I'm not sure that was the point.

Heh, they ended up using a .XYZ domain.

Brb, increasing my asking price for the only .XYZ I own (a really awesome one though, Stocks.XYZ). And I'm actually not kidding. Might be a good idea to hold on to this domain a bit longer I guess.
Keep it.

Come on, if some entity goes self aware it is definitely a Google search algo.

You can't be in support of a free market, aside from exceptions that you don't like. It doesn't work like that.

It's their company, they built it from nothing. They can do whatever the hell they want with it. You're telling me you'd be an absolute moral angel with that amount of resources and data at your disposal?

Holy mother of all pots calling the kettle black, batman! :batman:

I guess you really do just.. post.. and not think about it further than that. This explains so much. Thank you.

Other thread spillover bro. I am fine with Google changing name to Alphabet or whatever. I just recognize that in the near future, technological companies are going to be a major power factor.

I've also personally moved on from ancap to what I would call trans-humanism neo-reactionarism. In essense, lets build that Heinlein Moon Colony.

You should put up a "for sale" lander with a contact form. You never know, you might hit the jackpot at some point.

Heh, talk about jumping on opportunities.

Probably the abc.xyz site itself is not going to become more than just an "umbrella" list site though.

So basically they're just creating a Berkshire Hathaway type holding company that is publicly traded, with wholly owned subsidiaries like Google, Nest, Android, etc underneath.

I'm far from an expert on trading, but I wonder if this gives them some added flexibility on what they have to report on earnings calls? Do we know as much about Burlington Northern now that it's owned by Berkshire? I dunno. Also, this gives them the ability to keep Google out of the branding for those other companies too. Nobody thinks Berkshire when they think of Geico or Fruit of the Loom or Dairy queen or whatever other companies Buffet owns.

I use Voodoo.com for my domains for sale pages because you have an option to get inquiries directly to your email with the info about who you are dealing with.. On Sedo for example you only get to know from which country the offer came from..

That's exactly what they are trying to accomplish imo.
Also it gives Sergey and Larry more control over the company and allows them to also give more CEO jobs out.
