AMA: I'm an NLP Practitioner

So you're a Scientologist now? Where do I signup!?!?!

While Scientology certainly has an image of a vicious organization, I'm left with the impression, that the core ideology is symbolic, like pretty much every other religion. It leaches off money to run itself... like every other religion.ymmv, but I think every lesson is has to be paid for. Money is the smallest thing somebody could ask for. Pitiful for the people doing it though.

Same thing is observed in NLP... It's sold in a malicious way and you have to read between the lines, but it teaches universal principles, just without the shiny pictures.

WF is like shawshank redemption, you have to crawl through a river a shit before you come out clean on the other side.

Which, I find pretty accurate assessment of how you chose to run your forum. Thus why I am particularly interested why you don't like NLP.

If you knew enough about science, you wouldn't be basing your judgement solely on it.

You're right, gut feeling, instinct, and faith are much better things to base shit on.

I just got back from NLP practitioner training and know a lot of you here are interested in it (or are interested in self-help/motivation which NLP has a big influence on).

But, before you ask, here are some cool things that I know will make your life better:

I and everyone else are all doing the best we can given what we know at the moment
If you just believe this, it'll be easier for you to get over why your parents abused you, why your employees fucked up, and why you fucked up in the past: you and everyone else were just trying to do the best, there was a positive intention behind the failure and, if you recognize it, it'll make your life and business dealings much easier.

This belief will also make it easier for you to be confident: if you know that the move you are making right now is the best you can possibly do given what you know, you avoid second guessing yourself.

The most flexible element has the most control
Being able to stretch your mind will allow you to relate to more people, have more resourceful behaviors, and innovate better responses. It is only when you have one behavior left that you lose control over a situation.

The meaning of communication is the response it elicits
Think before you say something. Specifically, think about how the other person will respond and, if it does not get you toward your desired outcome, SAY SOMETHING ELSE or SAY NOTHING!

Hope those things stirred up some good questions.

//I'm going to be a master practitioner in November :)

What you said sounded like derp when I read it. I'm a "student" of Tony Robbins, and have a bunch of NLP books I have yet to read. Oh, and Tony refers to NAC - neuro-associative conditioning which is different than NLP.

My question: How can NLP help someone make more money?

Delete "faith" from that list and I agree.

Really? I don't know, different strokes for different folks I guess. I'll stick with the scientific process though.

I'll admit there's a "6th sense" that we all possess, but I'm not about to base my life around it.

Hmmmmm....why so much hate?

I listened to a few Tony Robbins' courses last year and I was told they are NLP-ish by the way he makes you do repetitive things. I honestly found them quite helpful, and they helped me realize why I do the sub-conscious things I do to self sabotage.

Can you recommend any simple books or videos to watch?

I agree.

I even mentioned that I think NLP is pseudo-science in this thread - but that doesn't mean I'm not open to hearing more about it, or that I'll shit all over someone who's taken an interest in a subject that I don't claim to fully understand.

Tony Robbins has helped me out a lot too. His stuff on mindset, focus, controlling your state, changing your questions to get the right answers, understanding your "blueprint" - essentially beliefs and world views have helped me out a lot over the years.

And I know that he's studied and supposedly uses NLP.

I guess my question to OP would be, how much time have you spent studying NLP, and how valuable would you consider it as a time investment versus learning say marketing strategy or any other valuable skills that you've invested yourself into learning over time?

NLP helped me view some very key mislearnings from a different perspective, stuff i'd tried very hard to unwind for decades. it was just a perspective shift, that's it. i'm glad to have done it. i don't really care what matt lauer, oprah, or anyone in this thread has to say about it. i'd have paid $10k for the effect i got for $20.

don't like it? don't do it. it may not be for you. pretty simple.

But... but... this is how the aliens and the CIA want you to think.
