So apparently, Amazon just rolled out their Paypal competitor. Login With Amazon! - Allows you to integrate it with any website, android app or iOS app.

Amazon, having extended far beyond the realm of book selling into the world of tablets and online marketplaces, is reaching ever further in its latest effort: "Login and Pay with Amazon." The new service does exactly what it sounds like, allowing online businesses to implement a login/pay system using existing Amazon accounts.

For Amazon, that means a (unknown) cut in the sales margin by acting as middleman. For businesses, it means an easy implementation of a widely used system (a "set of widgets and APIs" are all that's needed to get the pay service running on your site). And for customers -- all 215 million active Amazon account holders -- it means their Amazon login will now work across the web (where implemented, that is). Interested parties can head right here to get started, and readers looking for the dirt straight from Amazon can head below the official PR.

Thanks to thehobbster for the tip.

So , is it possible to use my amazon balance to pay? That would be sweet news for international amazon affiliates: Buy a gift certificate with your commission and then apply it to your account ... then use the balance to buy stuff elsewhere or perhaps even exchange it for paypal? Would be sweet if that would work....

You guys should be rejoicing and shittin' your jimmies over this. Paypal has been long, long overdue for some real competition.

At the very least, it might make it easier to hock your WaFo Special Offers without getting your PayPal account froze.

Congrats, bros.

Great. My hatred for PayPal (and eBay) exceeds my hate for Google, Microsoft and organised religion combined.

This would be good, I guess.

I personally don't mind Paypal that much but then again my account is almost 15 years old at this point and always has at least ~$1,000 in it so they tend to leave me alone. They froze it once and I called them up and told them to frig off, never heard from them again. Fees are a different story but even then I consider it a cost of doing business, meh.

Can any explain this to me?

From what it looks like, it's the same thing....

From my very limited understanding: one is a payment gateway, one is the ability to let users check out with their amazon account (so they don't have to put in info, and can even use amazon balance instead of only CC/Debit)

I hope they treat their sellers better than those fucks at Paypal do.

About time someone with some substance offered a rival system. I fucking hate Paypal and ebay and their fucking jumble-sales.
