Any downsides to living in Spain?

all these WF emmigration threads, do any of you have family and friends that you'll miss if you leave? it seems to never come up in the debate
Every time we talk (especially to my sister-in-laws), they go on about how I should move back because family is really important, and they really miss me, and blah, blah... I try explaining to them that you might miss me now, but if I start showing up at your house every weekend, it's not going to be long before your attitude towards me changes. Then they get all offended and pissed off with me that I could ever think such a thing, but what I say is true.
I have a great family, but being that close to each other just isn't going to work. Not to mention, there's not a chance in hell I'm moving to Calgary. I'd have to be insane to do that. I guess I could move back to Vancouver, but what's the difference? 800 or 12,000kms away, same shit -- just a bit longer of a flight.
Then I see my parents once or twice a year, usually for about a month at a time. That's the only reason I could see myself moving back to Canada. If / when my parents get too old, and need some help taking care of themselves. They did give me life after all, so probably only right if I help them out when needed. We're hopefully still quite a ways from that though (knock on wood).

I'm off to Mallorca tomorrow. No more Canadia. Got a hotel booked for a couple of weeks while I figure out if a house on the beach is better or a penthouse apt on the beach is better. Either way, it has to be on the beach. No more rain, no more sad weather.

What's with you Vancouverites heading to Southern Spain? Can't you go to South America or SE Asia like every other gay webmaster?

I'm definitely going to check out Ibiza and live there. I decided since I didn't bring a lot of crap and am 100% mobile - I'm just going to rent fully furnished apts/houses for 2-3 months at a time. Since April is when all the harvest festival stuff starts in Mallorca, and all those EDM/music festivals start on mainland in Summer, that's my plan.
Tons of gays here, probably not all webmasters. Chicks are mostly Eastern European as described previously in thread so far, but hotel guy says 1/6 Russians so probably going to find some buddies today.
Oh and I love your sativas. This stuff is as good as the dispensary stuff in Vancouver.

Just about everything you rent here, be it house or apartment, long or short term, is furnished. Almost all the real estate sites here list rentals. Search regionally for short short term rentals, or short term lets.
Hit the streets. Billboards at coffee shops / grocery stores, local classifieds (online & offline), talk to convenience store owners and bartenders, walk around areas you like looking for "for rent" signs, etc.
If all that fails, grab a real estate agent.
oh man, so much this. We just moved and I wish I would have taken more time to really go through the areas we wanted to be. I have a wife and a couple pets, so it was important getting into a place somewhat quickly, but as soon as we did and took the time to explore the area we found some cool places for rent and the only way they were advertising it was a small sign in the window.

PS - srsly, the best thing here is the fact that noones playing any games around here. if they're looking at you or hitting on you - they're not trying to raise their selfworth so they can go home, pet their cat and feel like their biological clock isn't ticking or whatever their fears are nowadays.
