Any of your guys in Austin Tx?

I am 30, married with 3 young kids so what you and I are looking for are worlds apart (I am guessing) but there is lots of fun things to do

Probably not, I enjoy having a good time but relaxing and enjoying the scenery is a better feeling to me. It's nice that the option is there... but I'm big into music, can't take blizzards anymore, and will be moving from one of the shittiest states to do business in to a place with no state income tax. It's going to be better lol.

I really hope the worst for people like this. I wonder if I can rebill them on PBR and American Spirits/Galoises.

Hoping the worst for hipsters makes such little sense to me. It's like the people that drive Lamborghinis and do it because they're not comfortable with themselves and because they have short dicks. Same goes for people that hate on hipsters. What do they make you feel uncomfortable because they're not like you? Why don't you just "take it easy brah". I see people complaining about hipsters because 1) they try really hard to be different/special but maybe aren't that different/special (cry me a river) 2) they can come off as pretentious because of it (cry me a river). Austin is a great place. If you let your hate for hipsters get in the way of it you probably have daddy issues of your own to deal with. :food-smiley-010:

Been down there since last summer, leaving in a month. I can't handle the cedar. My car is coated in yellow pollen and it makes my face feel like it's burning off.

Lots of homeless and the whole "music scene" thing is over hyped in my opinion. On the plus side the recession hasn't hit Austin as bad as some areas, since large groups of wealthier folks from other countries and states have come here to take advantage of the tech industries and other folks have come to take advantage of the service jobs it takes to support the place. 10-20 years ago it would've been cool. But I have to side with Subigo on this one. Mostly a haven for Texans who hate Texas.

I recommend you visit to see if you have allergies. If you have allergies you'll be fucked

TRUTH!!
OMFG

In February i got DEMOLISHED by the cedar mountain pollen fever. Jesus I can't even explain to you what it was like. It usually doesn't hit you until you've lived there for a little bit, and I think it just beats you down.

What parts of the city would Austineers recommend for temporary residence? Obviously South Central seems to be ideal/has the most going on.
But what about due East of the city, and up by UT?

How good is the public transportation btw?

If you bed down close to UT you will be blown away at the sheer volume of gorgeous girls walking around. Unless you're a gay webmaster, then you probably won't care.

Yea, I noticed as I get older, I tend to enjoy the "slow life" a little more. One thing to note, is there are a lot of neat things to see and do in the area but we dont have "mountains" and things like that. Overall, central texas is pretty flat and will be pretty hot and dry in the summer. We have had summers with 30-40 days in a row with temps over 100 and no rain. But the contrast to that is it has snowed a handfull of times in the 30 years I have lived here.

I really enjoy water (lakes, water parks, swimming, etc.) so there are lots of things to do around here that involve water. There is a really huge water park in New Braunfels (about 30-45min south) which has some really high tech water rides and things. Schlitterbahn Waterparks - America's First Family of Waterparks

They are in the process of building one of these parks in Cedar Park (about 10 miles north of austin) for about 360 Million to be completed in 2012.

There are many nice restaurants that overlook town lake or lake Travis. One of my favs is The OASIS Restaurant- Sunset Capital of Texas

We do have a pretty high Spanish population so you will find lots of local Mexican restaurants. (think margaritas and queso).

Again, I do live north of Austin in Williamson county which has been ranked one of the fastest growing counties in the nation a fair amount of the last 10 years. Lots of my neighbors are here from California or other places in the US because of the great lifestyle and cheep housing (compared to the rest of the US).

The area I live in, is pretty much all new. New shops, new houses, new restaurants, etc. I am kind of spoiled and like new, clean, modern things and we have plenty of that here.

Hope this helps some, feel free to hit me up on AIM or anything if you want to chat more.

I moved to Austin in November and love it. I am out by Lake Travis, and it's a 25-30 minute drive to downtown.

Depending on where you're coming from, it can be a big economic plus. I moved from NJ and except for the property taxes, everything is lower for me, and I got a 9% raise by no longer paying those NJ income taxes.

Just started up a new meetup for affiliate marketers here, and the first one is tomorrow and they will be monthly after that: Affiliate Summit Meetup - Austin, TX | Mar 29, 2011 - Meetup

...can't take blizzards anymore.

Some people bitch about a couple months of heat - you just stay inside midday with the A/C.

I couldn't take gray skies and snow from Nov-Mar in the northeast anymore.

The sort of winter I was used to lasted about 2 weeks here.

The "snow" we had in early February (kids got off from school for it!) didn't even cover the grass: Austin Snow on February 4, 2011 - a set on Flickr

That was it for winter here.
