Looking to get my logo and business card redesigned for my main Performance Marketing corporation.

Any tips on how to get the best work out of the designers?

You think its worth it to go for the Platinum package at $1,349? (See: Pricing | 99designs)

Any tips/advice/horror stories are greatly appreciated!

You live in Vancouver and are surrounded by exceptional designers. $1350 isn't a bad budget for a logo design. Why not find local talent that you can work one on one with to form a lasting client/designer relationship instead of holding a design competition for a bunch of third world hacks?

Doesn't even have to be local, you can find great designers here...

I always recommend this read before going with 99designs.
I tried my luck in that place (as a designer) and although I won 2 contests, I would join again just for fun.

If you really want to go with 99designs, make sure you have a blind contest so they are not copying each other.

It's not worth putting so much money in a contest, get a low-medium package.
Personally, I don't hate 99designs, I must admit I have seen some pretty good concepts there, but that's what you'll get: a few nice things in a pile of rubbish designs.

You are right bro! That's the conclusion I came to aswell. I actually found a few really good designers on dribbble. I've gone ahead and emailed them. I'd rather work direct as this could turn into a long-term relationship.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

You can pay $1,300+ for hundreds of concepts from designers who on average win only 5-6% of the contests they enter (that's around the site average) and hope you get a winner, or pay a single designer with a proven track record.

+1 on fatbat's suggestions.

Haven't had much luck with 99 designs or the like. Like someone has already mentioned, you'll get a couple acceptable options, and the rest will be garbage. Few great suggested via Fatbat, couple I had not even heard of. +1 Fatbat. Much appreciated.

1. Reply to every single image you get
2. Delete any user that is obviously not talented - will save both you and him time. Looks like it was drawn in paint? probably was. Insta-delete the user
3. Browse ended contests of 99 designs and anyone who has 5-4 stars, invite to your contest. I went through pages of contests and invited as many people as possible.
4. Browse portfolios and anyone with a solid portfolio, invite to your contest
5. Invite at least 5 people to the final round. Only 1-2 will make the revisions you want (some designers are just lazy!)
6. Blind contest is always best

That's all i got. I've ran multiple contests on 99 designs and I've always had 220+ designs from over 80 participants.

Oh btw - that's with a 400.00 contest amount. Sometimes there's a need to go higher than that, but often enough there isn't.
