BTW, updated murder rates for last year show Thailand only slightly higher than the U.S., 5.3 versus 4.8 per 100,000. Most of those murdered are men (according to Thai gov stats), so the thing about women traveling alone in foreign countries, although true, is rather impertinent when it comes to your chances of being murdered in Thailand. I've never seen stats that show murder rate of foreigners versus locals. But there is news of foreigners being killed regularly. UK labelled Thailand as the most dangerous vacation destination for Brits, presumably based on stats they keep. So like I said, it's easy to feel safe if you don't know the language and are clueless about what is happenign around you. But reality may be quite different.
