Anyone else self-taught coding/programming from scratch?

self taught programmer from 8-18 where I learned basic, qbasic, then vbasic 2-4.0

went on to learn C and some assembly x86

never really applied any of that knowledge but learned the principles of programmign early so I can pick up any language right away and debug lots of stuff.

went to college and NAVY a-shool for programming specializing in operating systems but nothing has even remotely come close to what I've learned on my own.

I taught myself how to make monies online. If you learn that, you pretty much don't need to learn anything else.

I wish I had programming skills. The amount of money I spend on programmers, not to mention the difficulty of finding a good reliable one, is unreal.

Sadly, I suck at what I have tried so far (flash, and some php).
4 years of silence and then...you popped your cherry.

Ironically, while I do well financially as an owner of a consulting company I am still a total failure at IM.

IF targeted traffic THEN offer
{Profit}
ELSEIF Repeat

Only code you need for IM. Anything else is just overdoing it.

I've always had a decent understanding of HTML(Mainly from Myspace, hehe)
But I was still far from writing my own HTML. CSS seemed a little difficult for me until I actually started working with it and understanding it's true reasoning.

Over the past couple weeks i've been busting my ass on codecademy,
and seriously, it's the best thing i've ever done. I'm now pretty dang efficient with HTML/CSS. And to top it all off, it's allowed me to really appreciate wordpress themes. Mainly because now I can really dig deep into themes and customize them EXACTLY to my likings.

When before, I would have to search and search for themes with the "layout" I wanted.

I'm now digging into the Java/PHP courses and I LOVE IT! I can't wait to become better at all these languages and to see what I can come up with later on down the road if I keep this pace up.

My advice, if anyone here wants to learn any language you have to at least check out codecademy. I'm sure there are others out there but this is just one that really worked for me. They explain everything so well...

Well.I have a masters in Chemical engineering. Got into programming stuff in final year while trying to "fix" department website. Never looked back. I can build moderately complex DB web apps. Once you get the basics,I would say directly jump into real project mode rather than academic style. Good luck!

Started with BASIC on a Commodore Vic20 - Damn I'm old.

Biggest thing I noticed about learning to program for myself is that I got to be doing something. I can't just learn for learning sake, I need to be doing a project and figure out crap along the way. I learn so much better that way - I guess it's more motivating. Though I've had interviewers not like it when they ask what books and crap I studied and I just answer Google.

I am 100% self-taught.

I hacked wordpress and basic PHP for a long time, but over the past two years or so I've really stepped it up with shit I know. I love TutsPlus, but there are a ton of other subscription sites out there for learning shit easily (Code Academy, Lynda)

Great skill to have... You don't need to be a computer scientist to get this shit. Just enough to get by

Seriously???

GTFO Barfuck....

You fat fuck couldn't program yer way out of travestite's used, anal sex condom if yer nuts depended on it.

Come on. Get real brah. SMFH...
