Anyone have problems sleeping/waking up?

well, whatr a coincidence, was on one of my hd's where i transfered all the smaller hd data on

How To Sleep Less and Have More Energy Than You Ever Had Before.pdf

hope it gives you some useful tips.

but i would stay away from sleeping pills and even Melatonin, tried that myself before and it lowers energy for me in the morning what little is left. and soon i started using it if i was bored during the day i just took a lot and slept till the morning. it's not a long term solution :) but i assume not everyone will abuse it ehe, but Melatonin is no sleeping pill so it's probably the best thing to try if you want a sleeping effect without going for heavier stuff, it's a natural synthesized hormone

I picked up one of these recently:

Bright Light Therapy with Day-Light

I think the idea is that you use it for 20-30 minutes every morning.

Can't speak as to its long term effects as I've only just started using it, but it does seem to give me some energy.

I basically got it to help correct my sleep cycle, as my body wants to go to bed at 5am and wake up in the afternoon.

yeah i used that for a while, it kept me up more easily in stead of staying tired, they also have a newer version that is supposed to work better, bought it half a year ago but haven't really tried it yet for continuous usage daily

Melatonin is great for getting you drowsy, but it can make it a real bitch to get out of bed in the morning. I feel tired and zoned out the next morning, even after having coffee.

To get to sleep I'd take valerian root, smoke some herb, or read in bed.

Then for easier mornings set 2 alarms: your normal wakeup alarm plus another one for 15-20 min before that. When the first alarm goes off, wakeup just enough to pop a vitamin B complex and a caffeine pill then fall back asleep until your next alarm goes off. The pills will be kicking in by then.

Go to the gym and lift heavily weights. You WANT to sleep at night, and will take multiple naps during the day.

You should do exercise early in the day or in the morning. Exercising too late will keep you awake rather than having the opposite effect.

This type of sleep pattern can also be the result of clinical depression, so maybe some SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) might work (But obviously only after being prescribed :) )

Do you have problems w/Anxiety? *why* cant you sleep.. does your mind just keep going and going, energizer bunny style?

Most of the info already mentioned would be good to try out. I personally haven't slept properly in 15~ years.. Horrible insomnia (anxiety is a contributing factor. I always have something running through my mind.).. If I dont really force myself to try and sleep (usually "self-medicating" as well), I can pretty easily stay up a good 48 hours.. (no stimulants. this just exasterbates the situation.). Regardless of how long I've been awake, I *never* want to wake up.. Could easily sleep 10-12 hours if able (although with a child and spouse, this rarely happens these days). I've been known to pass out for up to 18 hours as well..

Tried damn near everything mentioned ITT, by themselves, and in conjunction with other things.. weed, alcohol, melatonin, diphenhydramine (benadryl), sleeping pills (OTC, sonata, ambien, etc..), antipsychotics (which work. really well.. but i personally develop a large tolerance *very* quickly.. and they make you feel rather zombie like), excercise, changes in diet, 5-htp, valerian (stinky stuff), nothing at all, etc..

Depression could certainly be a factor.. Anxiety as well.. getting your circadian rhythms all screwed up..

I feel your pain though. Hopefully you find something that works.. Talking w/a Doctor is certainly recommended.. I have not had any wonderous results from having done so, but when your body starts really hurting for sleep, it can be helpful in a pinch.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Is Melatonin like benadryl? I hate taking benadryl because I have no clue what is happening in the morning.

When I go to sleep I don't have problems staying asleep, I just need to go to bed earlier. I also watch TV before I go to bed, I can't just lay in bed and go to sleep. I turn the TV off soon as I feel like I'm going to pass out.

I just feel like the biggest bum if I sleep 10-12 hours and especially sleeping after 12PM. I just feel like it's not normal to wake up in the morning and feel exhausted and feel the need to go back to sleep. Especially waking up around 8:30ish, that's kind of normal/late to wake up at that time.

I also feel dumb to make a doctors appointment about this. If I was in the doctors position I would just say, "Just man up and stop crying about it." But it's just gotten to the point where 8 hours doesn't feel like its doing the job.

check out f.lux. cured my insomnia

yeah I got f.lux on my PC but not my mac. Forgot to put it on there.

Don't think you need more sleep.. You just need to sleep right. A full REM cycle as far as I know takes 1.5 hours to complete. You should be allocating however long it takes you to fall asleep (let's say 10 minutes) + however many REM cycles you want to complete (multiples of 1.5 hours). So you should be sleeping 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5 hours. Basically, you're better off sleeping 7.5 hours than 8.75 hours (like you are right now). Hence why you feel fatigue in spite of getting more sleep than I can ever recall getting over the past 4 or 5 years.

Try a cup of kava. Kava is a traditional ceremonial drink from the south pacific. Will mellow you out and help you fall asleep. Drink a few cups and you will get "kronked" -- awesome buzz with no hangover the next day. Highly recommend it.
