Anyone here doing large scale direct mail campaigns?

Thought about that as well but I'm sending them straight to a call center. I'll definitely test postcards on back-end mailings however (provided the test pans out).

Call center you say. So is most of the selling done over the phone? Is the goal of the DM just to get them to call and salespeople will do the rest?

If that's the case, i would test the postcard FIRST. You can prob get a postcard printed AND mailed for 40 cents a pop. Again, i don't know the exact product/service, but if it's getting them to call in and you are on a tight budget, so go with postcards and check out getmembers.com. I met the founder of that site at a convention a few weeks ago and he said they can do postcards/delivery AND lists for less than the cost of standard postage. (He could have been BSing, but u can check it out). Granted the list may not work for what you need, but may be able to do a dirt cheap test. Your conversion rates would need to be a lot lower then...

Again, will also depend on the niche, but no better way to find out then to test both at the same time (u can easily track calls with any call-tracking service)

I own a direct mail shop. I do letters and 5k minimum pieces. If you are doing letters, LMK and I can give u dirt cheap prices (or at least tell you if you are getting hosed)

I mainly do finance related simply because that's what clients want atm. With finance the response is horrific with postcards compared to letters. The goal is to NOT look like an advertisement :)

I do some direct mailing with postcards for a dentist. After the printing and shipping costs it runs me about 10k for 16,000 postcards. We've been farming the same postal codes twice a year for about 10 years now and he gets a consistent 1% conversion rate.

Might not sound like much, but a client is worth between $200-$10,000 to him.

That pricing is INSANELY high unless you are using some really crazy shit. I'll get you way down then you can whack him for the same 10k :)
