I didn't read some bullshit article on how bad it is or saying anything like it, I'm just trying to stay substance free entirely. Though I work out and eat real food, this seems to have turned into a routine/tradition of mine to the point where I may sip 2 to even 3 cups a day. After a few hours that initial energy highpoint seems to fade and leave me drained.

Anyone quit drinking coffee? And what did you use to replace the habit with to still be able to think clearly/remain energized as you go about your day?

Fuck no man. Coffee + Water + Cannabis = breakfast.

Coffee is good for you. Just drink it black w/ none of the bullshit in it. Buy organic coffee so it is not full of pesticides.

Hell no. I've already given up tobacco & soda. Call me an addict but I need some bit of a stimulant and I have no plans on getting rid of coffee. I only drink a cup, maybe 2 in the morn, but I'm worthless without it.

My coffee machne broke 2 weeks ago and I had to wait 2 days for a new one...

I was shaking like a drug addict!

I found that a handful of raw cacao beans provides long lasting stimulation without the jittery effects of coffee. Good for continuos creative work because of the nootropic effects of cacao. Don't overdo it though and cycle it because there appears to be a tolerance of some sort. For the grind, coffee is good though ...

Oh, and don't mix the two.

plenty of studies showing the placebo effect of coffee, try decaf?

I like coffee.
I also like raw organic cacoa and maccha, or some white tea.
They can easily take the place of coffee if needed. They also have more health benefits than coffee, although I like all 3.

Was drinking a ton of coffee/caffeine for my first few years of IM - 5-10 cups a day + a few energy drinks (horrible) - cut the energy drinks no prob and then gave up all coffee/caffeine for a week when I was trying to improve my sleep (was waking up a few times a night and read that excessive caffeine could be cause) + give up dependency on daily substances like OP. It was a suprisingly tough week - tons of headaches, no energy, anxious. Was really suprised because I never got 'buzzed' off of coffee - more just drank to feel even and I like to have something to drink when I'm at a desk working. Ended up going back, but limited intake to 1-2 cups a day and moved to higher quality, organic sourced coffee. I also started using a french press with kettle-boiled water instead of my keurig to turn the act of making a cup into a 10 minute process rather than the quick hit that the keurig provided - helped keep me disciplined and also felt a little better about the shit I was drinking. This was also the time that the epic juicing thread popped up on wf so I started juicing daily to offset the morning cup that I was used to drinking as soon as I woke up.

I definitely think we build up a dependence on caffeine so my advice would be to ease off of it slowly to lower that dependence - I think I read that dark roasts have less caffeine than lights, or maybe try the different shades of tea (green, black, oolong, etc all have different caffeine levels). Or if you don't mind being off for a few days/weeks just try and give it up cold turkey. In terms of replacing that energy buzz, I highly recommend juicing - good info here: http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/139834-buy-juicer.html

If you have caffeine everyday you'll develop enough of a tolerance that you're productivity would be no different compared to never drinking caffeine at all.

The trick is to have caffeine infrequently enough that you don't develop any tolerance but frequently enough that you get plenty of boosts throughout the week.

Right now I have caffeine 4-6 times per month and it works great. I'm not addicted or tolerant, and I'm hugely productive on the days where I need it the most.

What do you do with the beans, kryaa? What.do.you.do.with.the.beans?

I drink a morning shake with bananas and oatmeal, sometimes curd if i feel like a bodybuilder. The cacao beans fit right in! You can also eat them with your cereals - you just need a blender to crush them.

I went cold turkey a year and a half ago. I slept 16 hours a day for 4 days straight and then was grump for a month straight.

2-3 cups a day isn't a lot however so your withdrawal symptoms might be less than mine.

I drink Pu-Erh tea every morning and around noon.

Pu-erh is the shizniggle.
It's like drinking earth...but better:thumbsup:
I love that taste.

Can get expensive...depending on the type you buy.

Do you notice some effects that are calming but give you energy at the same time?

Pretty good investment too if you can find the right kind. I am sure you know it was used a currency before all the kids started drinking BTC.

I have a couple of buddies that have some really nice blends if you ever want to PM me I can put in you touch.
