Anyone seeking dual citizenship? (2nd passport)

You can claim if you're born before 2000 it seems (even to non german parents) - Jus soli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But according to the article you linked, before 2000, German nationality law was based entirely on jus sanguinis. Jus sanguinis is nationality right by blood rather than by birth. After 2000 Germany has a limited form of jus soli which is nationality right by birth.

oh shit, didn't pay attention to that. it's crazy how some countries you can be born in and it has no bearing on your status while others all you need is a single piece of paper, you don't even show up and they give you citizenship. and for the same rights ultimately lol

I've looked into it. I can get a Vietnamese passport (borne there) but it looks like it'll take $3,000USD and 3-6 months of paperwork.

I really don't see the advantages of a 2nd passport. What's up with the hype?
-Vietnam requires a visa to almost every country, no point in using it for travel.
-I hate paperwork. I heard the Vietnamese DMV is worse than the US DMV.
-End of the world revolts in the US? ha! Its more likely I'll get hit by a car when out drinking.
-Overseas bank to hide money from the IRS? not the biggest of my concerns right now.

Is there any *real* reason to get one?

Yes a Vietnamese passport is not that great. It's only useful if you plan on incorporating + banking in Vietnam.

I was thinking of getting my Irish Passport, my dad was born there. I was wondering if they have an issue with letting felons into their ranks.

As long as your Dad is Irish and can prove it, I don't think it'll be a problem. It's not a naturalization process. This is your right, and it can't be taken away from you due to a criminal record.

I am not exactly sure how the Irish system works but the Italian Jus_sanguinis citizenship route involves no background checks. You are not filing for citizenship you are already a citizen. You are filing for recognition of said citizenship.

I can confirm this as well based on my own experience. Jus sanguinis claims never require a criminal record submission.

The only time I was asked to submit a police report was when I was naturalizing as a Chinese national. So Doc you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Doc: Confirm your Irish nationality brotha; you're already an Irish national so they'll welcome you with open arms no matter what.

Actually I urge you to move forward with this. You don't realize how lucky you are.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Why not just get whatever passport you need on the deep web?

To each their own, but not a chance I would try crossing a border with a fraudulent passport. That's a pretty serious offence, and you're going to do some jail time if you get caught. And a lot of those passports are stolen off tourists and things, so they're in Interpol's database.

I have to agree with Kiopa_Matt on this. You really have to be desperate to roll the dice on a deep web passport.

Not sure if serious.

Your fingerprint info is embedded there, and even if the shit passes automated computer systems, as long as a border official suspects something is not right they can detain you. they can check if things add up easily from a larger database, things like date of birth, name (if you're not white good luck). Wouldn't even recommend it for afghani passport holders.

Couple months ago I started talked to a taxi driver in eastern europe when he saw I was carrying a box of nice cigars lol he claimed he was a retired mobster who made it out on time, he bought all his kids houses in nice neighborhoods, large apartments and western educations. he told me some "back in da day" stories of how they used to extort business owners in scandinavia, forged tens of thousands of eu passports and had no trouble slinging them. he was all like you can do what you want if you work hard at it and don't take shit from anyone, very atypical for a taxi driver. didn't believe him at first but this was pre-biometric passport days and the guy seemed legit. I gave him a 20 eur tip.
