Apple's live event today for iPad mini, new Macs

The pricing hit the stock hard today - 3% drop ever since the $329 entry price was announced. The consensus was that an effective price point would have been $279 or $299. The problem with that though is for Apple too keep up with their usual margins they would needed to have at least $329; which is what they met. Guess you can never please everyone.

why would they support product form factors that they don't yet have products built for? What company in their right mind would say "well yeah, 11" laptops are perfect for some people, maybe one day we'll make some too"?

Hate them all you want, but their marketing strategies are god damn brilliant, as can be reflected by their complete and utter dominance of the consumer technology space.
 
I've been told by my wife after the apple conference today that I'm inheriting her "old" ipad (the one that came out 6 months ago.) Apparently this new mini iPad is "the cutest practical computing device ever conceived" and chicks are going to really dig it.

Gotta admit, it doesn't sacrifice any power, features, or resolution from the full-sized ipad; Just size and weight... Taking it to a new level of portability. (Such as in weak little frail people can hold it up all day to watch movies on and shit whereas the old iPad was still too heavy.)

Seems like it's set to break all kinds of records. This dip in the stock price may be the perfect time to get into apple.
 
It's always funny watching people criticize the marketing efforts or products of the biggest company in the world. Great mentality fellows keep it up, I'm sure you're more successful.

The 11" Macbook Air isn't a netbook, atleast by netbook standards when Jobs said that. The 11" Air is an ultra book. i5 processor, ram, big solid state disk. Your typical netbook is an Atom proc, shit ram, and 16gb drive or a 4200rpm spinning disk.

Usable screen resolutions are finally making their way into 7" tablets. I remember the first 7" tablets and they were shit. You were lucky if you got 800x600 resolution.

TBH, I would've waited for the Mini had I known this was coming. My ipad is not even a month old.

Damn, I was going to buy the iPad Mini but it is costlier than expected so will have to have a think. Might get a cheap Kindle instead and stick with my Tab. Can we use any pdf files on a Kindle or does it only play Amazon bought books?

My iMac suddenly looks shit/outdated now :(

I'll tell you why. The iPad Mini is a direct competitor to the Kindle Fire. Women love that shit. Know why? They can fit it in their purses. The iPad mini will be small enough to fit into a purse so women carry it around like they carry around all their other stuff, just much more conveniently and in their purses instead of a separate bag/case.

I don't know about you, but all my female friends have big ass purses, I usually end up giving them all my shit when I go to the beach or anywhere else where I can't carry my phone/wallet/keys in my clothes because they're basically carrying expensive duffle bags as purses.

You do make a good point though about form factor.
 
Tablets are not retarded. Tablets are what 90% of young women with Macbooks should be getting for their Facebook and shopping machine instead of $2000 laptops. Of course, daddy will pay for either one, but still.
