Are jobs obsolete?

The economic ignorance in this thread is mind boggling.

As long as there are humans, there will be jobs. Even if machines outstrip us in every way, and we become a second class species, there will still be jobs.

Of course, to understand that, you might need a philosophy of human action, like praxeology.

the machines are already taking over...

good luck bros..

Indian Manufacturing will have surpassed the Chinese long time ago but for the Govt. regulations
IT services was not regulated, and see what it's done to the world.

Yeah and look what the Indians programers at Microsoft did to Windows. It smells curry.

What I Think Will Happen:
Robots will eventually exceed the intelligence of humans..........

.....Since the cheapness of AI and computers in the future would lead to everything being almost infinitely cheap, every human could not work, and have pretty much anything they could've ever wanted.

Another Possibility:
We continue along the same trend as above, except before all of the above happens we find a way to modify our own brains to increase our own intelligence at the same speed as AI.........
Possibility #3:

Pretty ignorant thing to say. Seeing how this will be the first time in the history of mankind that we will create something smarter and better than us.

All the past "economic history" means jack shit because we are entering a new ball game here.

and of course there will always be jobs, but the question is will there be enough to supply a 5-6 billion job market in 100 years if robots can do everything better?

Its getting to the point where there is simply to many people in the world and not enough jobs for any economy to sustain. The only reason China is doing so well is because they are doing the cheap shit we don't wanna do, once it becomes cheaper for a computer to make all that crap then china is fucked.

You mean the millions of these that were ordered by Chinese factories to replace workers?

Far more likely, you might need to understand the philosophy of machine action, as in a future where we are a second class species, machines would be the ones making these types of decisions

Care to share what jobs we will have, if a machine can do everything we can do better than us and for less money? Especially since, in this scenario a machine would be able to pass a real life turing test and we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a human and a machine mimicking a human.

I very, VERY highly doubt we'll see computers more intelligent than humans during our lifetimes, if ever. Here's about where we are now:

Can't even make the things walk properly yet, so I doubt they'll be governing nations, and making decisions that affect 100s of millions of people any time soon. I can see it now... "whoops! sorry about that last recession guys. software bug!". When a computer can sit down, and learn how to read, write, speak, and comprehend a new language all on its own, then I'll be impressed. That day isn't coming anytime soon though.

Small problem with the coffee serving robot. It can't think. Don't think it'll be getting elected US President anytime soon.

The closest that technology has come so far is IBM's super computer ("Winston", or something), that beat people on Jeopardy. That's not AI though, and not a computer that can think, and make rational decisions. That was simply a big computer that can work really, really fucken fast.

Stick people into robot suits. Creates jobs and robots. Win win.

The only reason China is doing so well is because they are doing the cheap shit we don't wanna do, once it becomes cheaper for a computer to make all that crap then china is fucked. I think its whats gonna spark another world war. What are you gonna do when you have 1.5 billion people who can't even do cheap work to feed themselves or family. You either have to start exterminating people or like someone else said we have to switch to some kind of communism where we basically work to live.

I'm guessing at first it will get so bad that first world countries would probably try and place a ban on companies using robots and automated stuff and require a certain amount of people be hired to run things, But there is nothing they can do to stop it from getting to a major cross roads.

over population and efficiency do not work well together. The human race, religions and governments have basically all been run on slave power since the dawn of man. Once you take away the need for slaves then you have a bunch of people who have no purpose and can't do anything except waste space and resources.

Heres my wacky predictions for the next 50-100 years.

1. governments start killing off large amounts of people to save resources and prevent overpopulation. (my guess is some kind of virus, the important people will be vaccinated).

2. in 50-100years we become advanced enough that we can basically become cyborgs and consume little to no resources. We abandon trivial pursuits of todays world for wealth and glory and work together as a whole. Soon venturing out into space and becoming a super intelligent race. (pfft I wish).

3. Overpopulation keeps climbing and the world economys hurt because of it. Riots break out, nations like china feel the worst of it. Rather than give in and lose all they have accomplished they start invading other nations for resources. This has a chain reaction and basically starts WW3. Depending how bad the situation gets, end of the world through nuclear war, chemical warfare. Either way I'm guessing a shit ton of people will die.

Very interesting theory.
