I am wondering if these keyword tools really are accurate. I am talking about websites like WordTracker and Keywordcountry.com.

Ill give you an example. I found this term related to my niche that supposedly gets around 1200 searches a day.

I dominate the TOP 3 search results for this keyword. So you can't say that "Well, according to some statistic, people are likely to click the 2nd or 3rd choice over the first". If you've never heard of this statistic, you have now. I read it on this board.

Anyway, in 2 weeks, I've only received 200 visitors. This is supposed to get 1200 searches a day. So out of supposedly 16,800 searches, I only got clicked 200 times (counting ALL 3 websites). And yes, my title and my content are both keyword rich, so the visitor is VERY likely to click on my result listings.

Are these pretty off or what?

Yes keyword tools are inaccurate for the most part.

There are reasons why the visitors are off though
1. automated queries, people that scrape and never click
2. small sample data (eg. using altavista visitors and scaling assuming marketshare)

Makes sense

Are they just assuming that Google gets X amount more searches than altavista, so therefore we will multiply altavista's searches by x amount of times? Thats lame if true.
They are inaccurate because somewhere around 50% of queries are new, therefore they have no history.
You would think this would cause them to show a less amount of searches for a specific keyword when in reality, it would have more searches. However, my problem is the opposite. Besides that, however, I can guarantee that this term has been searched for AT LEAST a year or so. Seems to me like plenty of time to gather history?

I don't know. These tools are pissing me off because im devoting alot of time to keywords I think are worth SEOing. If they're not, i'd rather put my time in higher searched keywords.

All keyword tools are not 100% accurate.

Take any tool that gives you the search results from Google, not a single one of those tools can say that there results are 100% accurate and up to date.

These keyword tools only have access to the previous month of search results which in my mind are also not 100% accurate, I'm not sure about other search engines but I know Google does not like to give out too much of there not already widely availble data.

However if someone at wickedfire could possibly become a spy and get a job at Google we could all make a lot more money, especially if they can get a job working on the search algorithms and not be afraid to break the non-disclosure agreement Google makes there employees sign, then we would be in pretty good shape haha.

Sorry got off topic there.

All keyword tools are not 100% accurate.

I agree, but even I know that would be impossible, so I am not asking for 100% accuracy. I am asking for decent accuracy.

The results I am achieving from the keywords I researched using these tools are extremely inadequate when looking at the "supposed" number of searches. The accuracy of the number of searches for this keyword seems to be WAAAY off.

How many clicks you received dooesn't tell us anything. How many impressions did you get in that 2 week period?

Oh, I am not using PPC (I didn't clear that up, sorry). I have the top 3 positions in organic search results.

My keyword supposedly received 16,800 searches for that two week period (according to the tool).

And since Organic results, I can't tell how many impressions ive had.

This is what I am asking.

I guess the only way to find out is to use PPC for that specific keyword and find out how many impressions there are.

I get best results by using several keyword tools and averaging the results

If a keyphrase looks good in wordze, wordtracker, and the Google keyword tool, it's probably a safe bet.

They are not that accurate. They are just something to go off of. One thing though I would say is 1st is not always best. 2nd 3rd and 4th. I would check and see what site stats you can pull for the ones below you. Also since the stats are delayed maybe the searches have dropped somewhat.
