I transferred a bunch of BTC from my coinbase account to my silk road account, and then silk road got shut down. Are these BTC gone? I have the address I sent the coins to, if that makes any difference...

Yes, they're gone. See here - The FBI's Plan For The Millions Worth Of Bitcoins Seized From Silk Road - Forbes

"I asked the (FBI) spokesperson if users of Silk Road could try to recover the Bitcoins in their now-seized accounts.

She laughed.

“There is not likely to be restitution in this case,” she said. “If they’re knowingly buying something illegal, they can’t get their money back.”

smoking weed is great but selling narcotics, drugs, v's is entirely a different thing, so shame on you. nah just kidding, yeah they're lost. Dont you know that the owner was arrested for dealing drugs?

When FullTiltPoker was seized they sent me a nice letter saying I could get my $1800 back from the gubment... All I had to do was tell them who I was, where I lived and that I was gambling illegally.

I politely declined!

I know Silk Road had a fail safe built in. You gave them an emergency address to transfer all your coins to in the event anything went down. Not sure how it was supposed to be triggered or what, but the emergency account I gave them now has 0.01 btc in it, which was what I had in my SR account. I'm glad I did that, my 0.01 btc is worth something like eleventy billion dollars.

Off to buy a small nation. Peace pheasants.
