Are you ready for some football???

How the fuck is that not a TD for Calvin Johnson? First Galarraga's perfect game, now this. Fuck Chicago's sorry ass team and fuck the refs in the NFL that was pathetic.
Regardless if the rule is dumb or not, the refs were right in the call that he did not maintain possession on the way down.

This. Right call, dumb ass rule.

PS> The Lions were lucky to even be in this game. 464 vs 110 yds of total offense. The Bears kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and red zone turnovers.

Uh...backup QB is the only reason the yardage disparity was there. Stafford went out in the 2nd quarter when Chicago was down 14-3. I actually feel bad for Chicago after seeing that game because I'd be surprised if they win another game playing like that. Chicago is horrible. 1st and goal on the 1 foot line and they couldn't score? Not gonna beat anybody playing like that.

As far as the rule goes, it was clearly misapplied. Anybody that saw the catch, knows it was clearly a catch. He caught the ball, had possession, one foot down, two feet down, butt down, knee down, left hand down, now the right hand goes down all while having possession. Now as he attempts to get up the ball comes loose. Ground can't cause a fumble, so that should be a catch. He broke the plane, so that should be a catch. He had 5 points of his body down in the end zone with possession of the ball, so that should be a catch. If a Chicago player came over and drilled him while he was on the ground with the ball, they would have called a late hit penalty, so that should be a catch. What do you want the guy to do - take the ball out to dinner after the game and make love to it for it to be considered possession.

I understand the rule, but they misapplied the rule. That catch was not what that rule was made for. Have you ever seen a catch like that ruled incomplete? Ever? Didn't think so. I've seen replays of the type of "catches" where the rule has been applied before and none of them looked to be catches to the naked eye anyway. This was an obvious fucking by the league but that's alright. The defense looked better than I expected and the Bears looked like shit so I'm ok with that. We don't expect the playoffs until next year anyway because we don't have any depth yet, whereas the Bears haven't even begun the rebuilding process.

That's how I feel about it, how can that not possibly be a catch? There was no bobbling, there was no doubt the receiver had possession of the ball. Bears get lucky.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. In fact, it cost us a game vs. you on a Berrian catch that was ruled incomplete.

If you recall from 2004....

NFL Game Center: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions - 2004 Week 16

Start watching at about 1:30

That looked like a catch and they didn't explain why it was ruled incomplete. My guess is his 2nd foot down was out of bounds but I couldn't tell by the video and I don't remember the play to be honest. Trying to forget the Harrington years. Either way, the rule is either retarded or they fucked up the call. But even without that play it was two bad teams trying to be less bad so in the end it won't matter. Neither team is going to get a whiff of the playoffs this year.

Texans looked good but I wouldn't get too hopped up on them making it to "the big show" this year. They have been inconsistent in the past, so hopefully they keep it up...but who knows.

I'm pretty satisfied with how the Giants played -- minus the ridiculous mistakes. Every interception Eli had was our dumbass receivers tipping the ball up into the air (I don't understand how they can drop the ball so many times), so that's something that's pretty correctable. Overall though, our receivers looked real good. Sucks that Kevin Boss got injured.

Our special teams was god fucking awful. Matt Dodge (our punter) was a beast at the end of preseason but it looks like he's got the jitters now that the season has started. Hopefully he gets his act together because he can punt the ball pretty much out of the stadium when he does it right. Also our kickoff coverage was a joke, I think their average starting position was like the 45 yard line.

Our defense, other than a few mishaps here and there, and letting them convert on some long third downs, actually was pretty solid. 4 sacks and 3 picks, knocking the quarterback out of the game, etc. I'm pretty satisfied with that. If they can clean up some sloppiness here and there they are going to absolutely destroy people -- which of course, I am very excited for.

It's week one, which is really just game 5 of the preseason, so I'm not too worried. Sloppiness will be cleaned up and the team will (hopefully) just improve throughout the season.

Dunno if anyone really cares about my Giants assessment, lol, just figured this was the thread where I get to talk about them :)
