Anybody give a damn about it? I think most people here would hate something so abstract in general.

I guess it would be cool to post people you dig or whatever.

i give a damn about affiliate marketing. affiliate marketing is an art. therefore, i give a damn about art.

He's right and that's an interesting point.

What is art? Can art be defined?

Perhaps art becomes itself at the point it hits a persons senses and it's individual to everyones own perspective. It's born from creativity.

So you can apply your creativety to anything in life - not just music, painting, dancing etc. but even to sales, marketing, whatever job you do, how you communicate with others, your relationships etc. And when you do you open up new doors and possibilities - you hit others with a new perspective, something to think about, feel and cause a reaction to.

+rep to art

I'd say 85% of "Art" is like the Emperors New Clothes. Nobody would think anything of your "art" , in fact most people would point and laugh at it. Until someone says "OH NO IT"S BRILLIANT, LOOK AT IT SHINE" and then everyone stands there and goes "oooh ahhh , look at the brilliant colors, look at it shine"

This is the only form of art I care about. An athletic woman's body is proof God wants us to appreciate art!

I don't have pictures of a lot of the stuff I did in school and don't have it with me, so here's some stuff. I shot at a friend's show recently.

Nice pics! Like the black and whites....

I got into art around 2003. I'm definitely not an expert as such but I picked up (dummy alert coming here.....)
"Art for Dummies" on Amazon.com and it's pretty good!
I basically wanted a little cliff note version of art history, plus a better understanding/way to describe what I like - for example, with me it's modern art, specifically and in no particular order: impressionism, post impressionism, expressionism, cubism, fauvism and...

Fav artists include Kandinski, Picasso, Rousseau, Mattisse, Gaugain, to name a few. Kandinski is prolly my favorite, and I love his works "Composition et al",

Composition VII is perhaps one of the best, i.e that I like:

I got some great second hand DVDs on Amazon.com on some of my favorite artists. You should check it out! It's cool to see a little documentary about their lives.

As for who considers it important? Alot of it probably has to do with how one was brought up and oddly enough income.

For instance, if you read the World Wealth Report, you'll see that a significant number of the world's wealthiest individuals spend a LARGE part of their money on art.

Here's the report right here, it's generally consider the most respected study done on Wall Street on the issue of who the world's wealthiest are and their spending and consumption habits:

The Wealth Report of the Wall Street Journal does a whole section on Art/collections as well

When it comes to business, I've found that a quick FREE ecard from MoMa or Tate Modern goes over really well.

Do you ever send them out?

Helps if you forgot a birthday or want to get your significant other's attention too, lol

Tate Britain | Past Exhibitions | Art of the Garden

BTW, have you sold any of your photos?

I have made large prints of my photos but never cared to sell anything yet.

I am usually most interested in impressionism or altered realism for viewing. I tend to find more depth in these sort of paintings.

I like the treatment of the paint and the invocation of feeling in this one.

and you can't talk about american realism without mentioning christina's world. the composition is changed to give it the longing that is has.

this is really just what i am thinking of now.

photography, music and life like drawings yes.

drawings that look like they've been done by a 1 year old (otherwise known as "contemporary art" bullshit), no.

edward hopper...

Interesting! When you say "the treatment of the paint", tell me what you see! I'm a bit of a novice as previously mentioned - it's always cool to see through others' eyes....

Don't think I'm too familiar Hopper and Dali ---> off to google image now :P

Nice to run into some cultured blokes on WF :P
FYI, this kind of stuff goes over really well with chicks who are "wife material" guys, lol

(a woman with 3 brothers speaking here ;) )

I'm very fond of Frederic Remington and Thomas Eakins among others. I happen to own a large watercolor I bought in Paris for $80 painted by Leon Georges Calves . My father was a fine artist and commercial illustrator, so I grew up around art.

That's awesome! You should hit up some of the "Young Benefactors" engagements at local museums - you know your stuff and it's great networking opportunity!

One of these days I'll subscribe to ARTnews and get more serious about learning more - *I hope* :P

well hopper uses oils in an area where tempera was dominant
you probably will recognize this painting he did, the most popular american made painting probably.
800px-Nighthawks.jpg

hopper was great with placing objects in an environment and relating them. His skill as a painter just helps. He is a compositional master who could just as well rely on his interpretation and treatment to painting.

I say treatment in that it is how he treats the paint when he works with it. like the palette look he as in some of his paintings requires more forethought than most people consider.
