I've been utilizing article marketing for a while now with varying success but wondered how others do it. Many times, I only submit to Ezinearticles since they are the biggest (I think). Should I be submitting to lots of sites, or is that one sufficient? Is there any reason not to just submit to as many article directories as I can find?

Thanks

1) There are sites of a similar calibre to ezine articles you can submit to, or at least get PR5 etc - I use goarticles and amazines to name a couple.
2) If you submit to every directory you can find (say 500) you will have thousands of low quality links coming to your site which could do more harm than good.

Thanks DB,

So submitting the same article to a few different sites doesn't pose any SEO problems, as long as the links are valuable. Correct?

As far as article marketing goes, what is the limit to how many times a word can appear? I wrote an article about chocolate truffles and the history of chocolate truffles and it got slammed because the word chocolate appeared to many times. Didn't even realize it until Ezine turned my article down.

High keyword densities are pretty out of flavour (sorry, had to make the pun :D)

I've seen a few people claiming the magic density lies somewhere in the region of 4-7% of text. To me that really doesn't sound write at all. at 7%, you're mentioning the word about once ever 14 words. That's pretty much every sentence!
That said, if density really mattered, it'd be pretty easy to game the system through trial and error.

SEs operate semantically nowadays as well as literally, searching for words that interrelate to each other (i.e. chocolate & cocoa).
Maybe crack out a thesaurus?

There is no reason to submit your articles to tons of low quality article directories other than for backlinks. They will usually not rank high for long-tails, which is the entire point to article marketing IMO.

Personally, I always submit each of my articles to these three higher quality article directories. No more, no less: ezinearticles, articledashboard, and goarticles.

I've been using this method for months with better success than submitting to just ezinearticles like I used to - sometimes I get the same article to rank in the top ten twice because it is on two different sites.

Good luck.

EDIT:
Just saw that Turbo linked to my post in another thread where I said pretty much the same thing. Oh well, read it again!

I have gone down the mass submission road in the past and apart from a few extra links it wasnt really worth the effort just submit to your favourite 2 or 3 sites and re write the title and first paragraph or so for each submission.

One more quick note about using article marketing...

A lot of folks use the content on ezinearticles on their own authoritative sites. So here's an idea...

1. Submit your articles to ezinearticles.

2. Set up a way to track which sites use your articles.

3. Contact the authoritative sites and ask them if you can write an exclusive article for them (with a few embedded links).

Now, you have unique articles on authoritative sites linking back to you.

This idea is not mine. I read it in Planet Ocean. It struck me as savvy, though.

Thanks

Thanks Harvey, I'll give you a few points for that one. I did find out that keyword density wasn't the way to go, very shortly after I bought the book. Actually I am glad that people are told to write naturally.

YEPPEEE! I just had my first article published by Ezine. I know it was too long for many people (almost 800 words) but I am going to write another one about nutritional healing soon. I have to admit though that some of the articles I have seen stink. They are not very informative nor very interesting and contain many grammatical errors.

In my experience it is not worth the time it takes to submit to mass directories. Go with your top 3 or 4. With all the time you just saved sit back and open up a cold beer.
