Atlas Shrugged Movie, Apr 15th

I'm sure people are dying to watch a movie about trains, trade war, metallurgy, and government writing taxes.

They are. It is a story about free enterprise. Few books have such loyal following as Atlas.

I only read about half of the book before laziness took over, but it was a good book - from what ive seen on the trailer, it blows...

for a start, i dont like the fact that they made the film in the present time, so my mental image of all the characters is totally screwed up - meh it will probably be worth the download.

I read both Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. Hated the 50 page long speeches as well - I remember that final speech from John Galt that just didn't end. I finished it though and the ideas behind it kinda change your view of the world. I bet Dagny Taggart would be a great affiliate lol.

The trailer doesn't look that bad to me - probably going to watch it.

Has anyone found a good torrent yet?

(I live in Canada and the nearest theater is 5 hours away or I would just go to it at midnight)

From Ebert:

And now I am faced with this movie, the most anticlimactic non-event since Geraldo Rivera broke into Al Capone’s vault. I suspect only someone very familiar with Rand’s 1957 novel could understand the film at all, and I doubt they will be happy with it.
Give the project to amateurs and you can expect an amateurish movie. lol

Disclaimer: I haven't seen it. Nor will I.

Just saw it. I can't speak for people who haven't read the book, but I absolutely loved it!

I have a couple problems with it (such as how they do the cliffhanger), but overall, for a low-budget movie, it completely exceeded expectations.

The mood and atmosphere was set, and despite a bit of bad acting and a couple of awkward scenes, the lot of it was DEAD ON and a great kick in the pants for me. Very satisfied.

This movie did EXACTLY what the book does - pisses you off, makes you uncomfortable, and makes you want to fucking tear it up with your business. Hell yeah.

If you didn't read the book though... I don't think it'll do the same thing. But a $6 movie in LA? Hell yeah.

Don't expect idiot movie critics to ever have read the book. I have a feeling that if you're not already part of the Ayn Rand thing, you're not gonna get it.

They miss the all-encompassing picture a little bit for outsiders. ie, it's not effectively shown what exactly the bureaucrats are trying to do and why it's so bad. That part just isn't given enough time.

But for those of us who already "get it", it's a great kick in the seat. Hence 86% of the people who took their day off, saw it at midnight, or the old people that were in the theater with me during the middle of the day to see it. Those are the poeple who would definitely appreciate it.
