Azoogle bans "free" ringtone promo

I find it extremely amusing that the cellular carriers are cracking down on people using the word "free" to promote something with a cost. Since they are the biggest violaters of that in the entire world because of all the "free" cell phones they give away with only a 2-year contract, it is at the very least monumentally hypocritical.

that is so true...

Looks like Azoogle has been actively killing affiliate links the last few days that are violating their new terms. Even shoe says he got "accidentally" whacked on Friday.

The next big move looks like the banning of "free" in urls, that will be painful.

Welcome to the wonderful world of marketing. Where large companies take out the small guys and make examples of them even though they are responsible for setting the bar for the exact practices. A good example is actually Google and it's spam problem. Google gives the okay to some very large corporations to spam away, but makes examples out of the smaller guys for spam. It's all about who you know and how much you make I guess.

The ringtone market is finished. Every ringtone provider's page I have looked at now has big ass "You are joining our club for $9.99 a month" signs

I don't think it's finished. My conversions have been pretty steady without advertising "free" and with the glaring $9.95 subscription wording.

I don't do ringtones specifically, but I was just given the okay to use "free ringtones" by a very large company. I'm allowed to run it on all ppc/seo, and anywhere else I want, as long as it's US traffic. Booyah!

I should clarify by saying everything was Ok up until today.

Conversions suck today!!!

Well I don't think promotion is the problem.. It's the actual company websites now have prices and paid subscription banners all over them that is keeping conversions from happening

Well i thought both the promotion and the websites having the pricing etc were an issue. I figured at least being able to continue to have the word "Free" when promoting it and using the same type of promotions previously used should help your conversions right?
