Anyone else deal with back pain on a daily basis? I've been dealing with it for a few years and just recently (finally) got the military to shell out for an MRI, apparently I have two slightly herniated discs in my back. Cortisone shot is next on the list of things they are going to try.

Doing physical therapy right now, pretty convinced that they are making things worse, just had 2 weeks without therapy due to a vacation I took, did it for the first time today (Heat + ultrasound treatment) and now I'm awake way too late and back on my vicoden because of shooting pain.

Anyone else in a similar boat? How did you get past it?

I had back problems for years and tried an unbelievable amount of stuff - both medical and non-medical/alternative.

The only thing that helped significantly was yoga. I don't know exactly why or how it helps (probably to do with improved flexibility and core strength) but it has pretty much fixed all my back problems.

Yeah, I've dealt with back pain ever since high school football.

Me at the time = 5'7", 140 lb running back.

+

Them = 6'0"+, 250 lb+ line backers that wanted to kill me.

30 year old with back pain today.

I have to sleep on a VERY firm mattress with no pillow. If I sleep on the freaking cloud that my gf is comfortable with I'd wake up not able to walk.

I've had back pain since high school when I thought squatting a ton of weight was the cool thing to do even though I didn't have the form to make it safe.

One thing that really helped was when I got my Simmons Beautyrest mattress. My back still pops like crazy but I haven't gotten a bulging disk since I've had it like I used to.

What really sucks is when I have high pain (like tonight) I can't sleep without vicoden - but vicoden puts me in a weird state of mind where I get so "in the zone" that sleep doesn't even feel like an option - probably going to end up with like 3-4 hours of sleep tonight.

Boo.

I'd recommend you take up yoga too... just be very careful with it when you start especially if you're injured... one of the biggest mistakes I see people make is trying to push themselves too hard when they start yoga... yoga is not like weightlifting, so you can't approach it with the 'no pain, no gain' attitude, especially if you're using it to help recover from an injury... take it easy and slow, and if you have any pain while doing any yoga movements, stop right there, don't push yourself...

I've got some info up on these yoga exercises, it's just a few core exercises that specifically help strengthen and align your back... it only takes a few minutes a day to do those exercises and is especially beneficial to those with back problems and those of us who sit all day working from a computer... in fact, seeing the number of peeps on webmaster forums talking about back problems was the reason I put that up in the first place...

Yeah the walking definitely helps with the pain management. It helps to strengthen and heal too. I'd say it brings me to about 90% well, but I still have to do other things. I have an inversion table that flips me upside down to stretch it out. I have to self align (if you can't self align , see a non-quacky chiro, there are some out there), I wear shock absorbers in my shoes. Every few years I take the oral steroids to try to heal the swelling...

Good luck, I know how bad and utterly bleak it gets. I have a friend who's friend killed himself just because of his back pain :(

Try EFT. Yes it looks hokey as fuck but it really does work!! If you study quantum physics at all you'll see that there is some basis to it.

Here's a video (you can also check you: Tapping.com - Free EFT Videos - Emotional Freedom Technique )

If it comforts you at all, the guy's a Cambridge University graduate as well. Like I said, just try a couple of times. You will feel better and then not really give a fuck "why" it works or how stupid you may feel at first.....

PS
Here's a link I found to how folks have used EFT for back pain. The whole process takes like 15 or so and it is free too!!!

here's some stuff from that page in case you're too tired to click through. Seriously, I tell alot of folks about this 'cause I read about it like 1.5 years ago and I have used it on so many things!!

Back Pain Relief

EFT's results for back pain relief are often astonishing. In over 50% of the cases, with no meds whatsoever, back pain vanishes or noticeably reduces within a few minutes of applying EFT. Also, repeated applications of EFT often brings relief to chronic back pains so that they no longer re-appear daily, weekly or monthly. This is pain relief at its best and doesn't involve drugs of any kind.
For more information, you can review a few actual cases below.

that's the bad thing about computer-related work. sitting down all day, every day is pretty much the worst thing you can do for your back.

Fuck all the shit!! Start doing Yoga and all the back pain would go phewwwwwww......it works dude. it doesn't cost you at all....so you can try tht stuff. Do Yoga At Home this would might help ya

I have it occassionally but then again I also have scoliosis. I am probably gonna have to have surgery in about a few months. Totally not looking forward to it.

My Dad's had back pain for 20 years. Chiropractors only help temporarily, his inversion table is collecting dust (nice little novelty to show your friends though), nothing really seems to help.

That said, he's a bit overweight and sits most of the time. I'd say the walking/yoga stuff sounds good.

Start doing supermans and lose some upper body weight.

Also never go to a chiropractor because once you stop, the discomfort/pain will be amplified.
