Bad Economy = Bigger Military?

Random thought as I wrote some totally unrelated articles for teenage girls.

Will the current economic conditions be good for the military?

Discuss.

(I'd really love to see someone knowledgeable pull some stats on enlistment and such. I'd do it, but I'm working at the moment. :) )

A friend of mine just enlisted in the Navy because he's completely broke with tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

I'd say, probably.

Step 1: Print money out of thin air and lend it to people that will never be able to pay it back.
Step 2: Watch all the poor people join the military... or move out on the streets.
Step 3: Pay some maniac to attack American property.
Step 4: Delcare war against some fictional group and attack some country with loads of natural resources.
Step 5: Destroy that country.
Step 6: Lend money to the country and have them employ American corporations to rebuild it. (Halliburton)
Step 7: When they can't repay the loan (which most can't) have them sell their resources cheap.
Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit!!!!!!!!!
Step 7: Repeat.

It will be good for recruitment at least - in the (paraphrased) words of my commander in a meeting yesterday
"If you're in doubt that any of your troops should be in the Air Force then the answer is they should not - we have plenty of motivated people looking to join"

I have 18 months left - unless the economy improves I'm probably staying in - a year ago I would have been out in a heartbeat.

As far as this being "good" for the military overall that remains to be seen, too early to tell... We as a general rule have been being asked to do more "stuff" with less resources for quite a while.

Oh - and the Air Force is expanding - but that was already in the works before things really hit the fan.

*yawn*

Shut up.

There was something on NPR yesterday about military enlistment going up recently and the National Guard having trouble recruiting because most people enlisting now want to be full time for the money. They mentioned the Army offering a $40,000 signing bonus while the National Guard was only offering $20,000.

I have talked to a few people whom has been over in Iraq, and my feeling is many of you haven't. It's really a bunch of bullshit despite what the news tells you. I have yet to hear otherwise.

And I imagine you have some proof or a hypothesis why this is so?

You do realize that almost all wars are started with a lie? Right.... The world is not so cut and dry.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, I'm just sick of Pat J's constant hard-ons for Bush conspiracy theories.

Put your tinfoil hat back on.

Do your research or SHUT the FUCK up, quite simple really.

^^^ Oh really? Do you have anything else insightful to say?
What are you, twelve?

OK Bush-haters, why is it that you claim this great national conspiracy was orchestrated by GWB and on the other side of your mouths you claim he's a bumbling idiot?

Nuff said really......douchebags.

^^^^
Doesn't get it.

GWB was a puppet and so is Obama. Globalization (Imperialism) will continue and poor countries will still be exploited. If the leaders of poor countries refuse to be corrupted they will be assassinated.. or invaded.

This is just not how the US works but also how China, Russia and other predator nations work.

Millions of people have died in Sudan over just a few years. Why? Because Chinese oil companies paid milita men to cleanse the oil fields.

and you plan on doing what about all of this?
All I ever hear out of you is whining, bitching and moaning about how corrupt the world is.
Too bad, can't do anything about it, just go make money.

The first step is obviously to educate people on this matter. Most people (like you) have simply accepted that corruption is inevitable and not worth fighting. And with that mentality it will never go away.

Exactly, we arn't saying bush is the one whose in charge of this shit it's just whomever is the fucking president at the time, they are nothing but the illuminati showmen.

If you really wanna know what's going on and how bad it really is, it's a research journey you have to want to undertake, just like AM, so it's not like your new to research.
