I need a new bed. I spend 2/3 of my life in a bed that is not comfortable and is too small.

My buying decisions are usually based on whatever the top sellers on Amazon are when it comes to a non-standard product that is not frequently purchased but unfortunately that doesn't really work for mattress/bed buying.

Looking for full/queen size and medium softness/firmness. No other special requirements.

I am a side sleeper/stomach sleeper. Rarely ever sleep on my back.

Relevant to my interests, i'm shopping for a new bed right now too.

Some of the higher end Ikea beds are pretty comfy, heard mixed reviews (mostly bad) about their cheaper ones though.

What the fuck, go lay on some. The salesman will help you.

Uh yeah, a salesmen isn't going to be much help unless he's into the stuff that I'm into.

I just bought one a year ago from Sleepys. If you look them up they have a bed that can have 2 different firmnesses -one on each side. I didnt opt for that option but the bed is fucking amazing. Im @ 240 and after a year the mattress doesnt have any noticeable depressions or whatever the fuck its called in it.

We actually have a huge thread somewhere here. Search for it, had some great advice.

Go with Serta. You won't regret it.

Stay in the $600-$800 range. I wouldn't go above or below that, as you'll waste $ or end up with something super uncomfortable. *Remember mattresses are marked up a TON. The higher the price tag doesn't really mean the better the sleep, or comfort. Reality is you can always buy a topper pad and soften it up more. Target has some amazing ones for like $199 that can make any decent mattress feel amazing.

I have the Serta Florence, but it's sold out. I bought mine for ~$629 after haggling them to death, retail was $1,400, lol. (car dealer brah).

But now the price for that same mattress is like $599 before it was discontinued.. Wait for Serta to roll out a "new" mattress, and try to buy when the old ones are going away.

Mattress technology doesn't change that much.. Springs, padding, etc. ignore all of it.

Does it feel comfortable?
Does it have ample support?
Does it come with a warranty, at least 5 years or more?
Does it wiggle and shit too much when you move around?
Does it look well stitched together?
Does the pattern on the fabric make you want to dream about traffic cones?

Really the only questions to ask yourself..

The biggest thing you need to figure out:

Do you want a mattress that's firm, soft, or somewhere in the middle.

Go to the store and test some out, you'll get an idea within a few min of sitting on one.

Other than that, ignore anything else.

Highly suggest you buy a topper pad + invest in a fur fox blanket.

.....

I like the mid-level simmons. If you can catch the owner or lead sales person of one of these mattress stores by themselves in the store, and offer them cash money they will usually give you the better deal. Before you offer cash ask what their best price is, say it's advertised at 899, they say they can do 700, offer them 600 cash and they will generally take it. works for me.

I agree that the beds are marked up a lot but to me once you start getting the padding on the edges of the mattress there is no comparison, these types of beds are usually found around $800 or so and up. My bed was 2k or thereabouts, and I feel great spending that amount. It is amazing to me. I tried a few that were 1k and I could tell the difference. My last bed I paid somewhere around 800 bucks for it 10 years ago and it is laughable how shitty it is im comparison.

Nobody cones in bed. Just not the place, unless of course your bed doesn't have bedposts. Make sure you choose wisely for your new build:

I personally prefer the cannon ball post as once you get past the initial sphere, you just know you can go to town on the following ribbings.

Stearns & Foster makes the best quality beds.

Source: removing the old beds from people's houses for a year when I used to deliver new mattresses. Most people just wanted their old beds gone, so we would trash them. However, I can't think of one instance of an old Stearns & Foster being tossed. Every single time it was either passed on to a relative or put in a guest room. Those fucking things are built to last.

Sealy and Simmons were ok, but most of the other brands turned to dust and busted springs after a few years. Nothing can fuck with S&F though. Don't skimp on your office chair or your bed because you spend most of your life in them.
