So what's the best tool for auto responders? Every tool I've tried is a piece of shit. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be stand alone. I use Joomla and Wordpress.

Thanks

I trust you're ready to have your host server IP blacklisted by spamhaus et al - that's a big risk you take doing it own your own (even double opt-in)

Check out mailchimp.com. It's free up to 500 users and then you can either pay monthly or pay as you go. If you still can't afford it after 500 users, then GTFO!

Have any of you idiots considered that he maybe has more than 500 people on his list? For one of my lists with about 60k optins, using Aweber didnt make sense, its better to get a server with a bunch of IPs and start mailing yourself at that point.

Yah Getresponse does the trick becuase Aweber doesn't have single opt (ugh). Lots of missing features from Getresponse and the frontend sucks but you can work it to your advantage

if he had more than 500 people on his lists...think he wud have done a better job of explaining his situation so he could get a better response. since he didnt, leads me to believe he doesnt know much of what he's talking about. I agree it comes a point where using aweber doesnt make sense, but like i said....he didnt state his question properly, so he can't expect a proper response other than the one i gave him.

are you sure Aweber doesn't have single opt?

The old version did..

I use profollow which is a private label of the old aweber and I can do single opt ins.

lol..Thanks guys for the info. Yes, I'm being a cheap bastage right now.. I mean, what's the sense of paying for something when you're just getting started? I'm just trying to start out and build a list initially. I thought an open source solution would be better than pissing the I know "small" amount of money down the drain without thoroughly testing it.

"I mean, what's the sense of paying for something when you're just getting started?" It will bite you in the ass later, that is the sense. But you will learn it over time:)

When you will be transferring your list to a "solid" mailing company, they will request confirmation from ALL your contacts if they want to keep getting your shit. 80% will say NO and you will lose them forever.

Start building the list at a solid company right from the start.

Nice point. I think I might start off with mail chimp since it lets you have 500 subscribers for free.
