Best No State Income Tax Place To Live

When I lived in Portland, OR, I knew a lot of people who lived in Vancouver and commuted to Portland to shop. No income tax in WA and no sales tax in OR. I may have that mixed up. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's pretty awesome.

If I had no family or friends that I wanted to stay around, I would totally do this.

the fact that you have to pay state income tax on money you made online is fuckin retarded. don't quote me on this but i don't think you necessarily have to move to a tax free state in order to avoid state taxes, can't you just incorporate a business in a different state?

They find out. People file at places like NV for liability purposes, I believe.

Problem is if the IRS thinks you moved for Tax Reasons they can keep taxing you for another ten years or so.
Which is basically the definition of slavery. The government owns your labor, even if you no longer live under that government.

seattle is cool but the winters are long and depressing lol

im planning on moving when i can

I think seattle has the highest suicide rate in the country make sure you leave me in your will

+1 for Seattle as well.

I've lived in the area for almost 20 yrs now (in Seattle and various surrounding cities) and I think it's one of the most scenic regions of the US.

There are 3 ski areas within 1-2hrs away, lots of great hiking/camping in the summer, tons of great lakes for boating/wakeboarding and the ocean is only 2hrs away.

I grew up in the eastern side of WA and while the climate is much nicer during summer I doubt you'd enjoy living there being single. Seattle has so much more to offer and you'll be surrounded by a lot of other tech savvy people. I'd recommend the neighborhoods of Queen Anne, Greenlake, Ballard, Fremont, Magnolia, Alki and Capitol Hill. I know you are craving the college experience so you'd probably also love the U of W district.

Not sure what real estate you were looking at but it's still quite expensive for the good neighborhoods. You certainly won't be finding any $150k homes like yours -- let alone any studios for that price. A decent home in the neighborhoods above is going to start at $500k.

Vancouver, WA is nice and have many friends who live there as well. But what makes it is having Portland and the nightlife just across the river. Otherwise there isn't much going on there.

+1 Hong Kong.

Also, my apartments there NEVER have voids - you can rent out a tin shack for decent money. Good way to protect your money in a global depression...

Incorrect. That is when you give up citizenship. You don't have to give up your citizenship when you move to another country. Also I believe the laws have changed somewhat in this regard, check with a tax attorney.

American citizens living overseas do not have to pay US income taxes for the first $80,000 or so of income they generate. After that you do have to pay US income tax starting from the lowest tax bracket.

Consult with a tax attorney about this if you are serious about leaving the country.

As someone who grew up in Vancouver, which is like 5 hour drive from Seattle, I would say go for Seattle.

You get used to the weather, and believe me, it is a million times more agreeable to be rained on than it is to be under 5 feet of snow for 6 months of the year. Granted, it's not as good weather as any of those other states, but the weather will grow on you.

Also, the Pacific northwest is beautiful geographically.

Vancouver, BC is nice. I should have clarified though, because I meant Vancouver, WA which is pretty much a suburb of Portland, like this_guy said.

Yes^^. I was going to recommend this and yes there is a Vancouver in WA, it's a pretty big suburb of Portland.
I lived in the Pearl in downtown Portland, but I knew a lot of people who did the live in Vancouver shop in Portland thing.
That's pretty awesome.

Do it anyway. Family is better when you only see them a couple times a year. And you can make new friends. The old friends who are worthwhile will stick with you despite time and distance.

That said, I'm totally on board with the people who suggested expatriating the country. Since AM can be done most anywhere, get out and see the world.

When you become an expat and have a non-US address, is it easy to get accepted into networks?

Naw actually because us people that make a lot of money like linking up with other people making just as much money; so that all of us can share ideas and make even more money.

They guys I'd live with are dominating markets anyways so we're already competition, so we're a lot more open about what we're doing.

And it'd be fun to live with a group of people with the same general interests as you.

Because he's gay. That would be like one of us wanting to live with a bunch of chicks.
