One of the guys I'm mentoring is ready to launch his site. I usually recommend newbz to go to BlueHost since their shared hosting comes with cPanel. Apparently they no longer offer monthly billing, and require an annual up-front payment (fuck that shit).

Can you guys recommend some good hosts?

I would set him up on my dedicated server but I want him to go through the full experience.

Thank you.

I send noobs to hostgator. I got a VPS with knownhost but I also use a shared acc with hostgator. Never had any issues with them in 4+ years and they're cheap as fuk

Beyondhosting.net

Fast support to answer all of his questions.

EDIT: Nevermind they don't have shared.

I don't mind hostgator, but I want him to gain experience with cPanel. Last I heard they run their own proprietary admin panel?

Nope, it's just a skinned cpanel. The usage is pretty much the same as far as functionality goes.

I took a screen shot of mine:

Then if you scroll down you get the usual domain, database, security managing cpanel tools

HostGator ftw, send him a aff link. You'll get $50 as well and he'll only be charged .01 the first month.

ZenSix is pretty good. Fantastic support.

I've used more than 40 hosts. Nothing comes close to LiquidWeb with regard to support. Not even Rackspace (circa 2008).

Nothing is forever, of course. But LiquidWeb has been doing a fantastic job for several years.

That's how I feel about beyond. A lot of people look down on them because I think wafo members use them, but I've been using them for over 2 years and every time I open a ticket I go to grab coffee and they've already responded by the time I get back to my desk.

I've never used BeyondHosting.net. If I ever need to go off the reservation, I'll keep them in mind. :)

If you're doing white hat stuff, go with BlueHost. They have sales on the holidays that let's you do $3.95 per month. Lock it in for three years and you'll have some great return.

I use Hawk Host, MDDHosting, and Downtown Host for some of my sites. They all offer a monthly payment option. Uptime has been good for all of them. My experience with support is limited, so I can't comment on that. However, they do have a good reputation at webhostingtalk.com, which is why I chose to use them. I've had accounts with each of them for several years.

If you decide to use any of these, look for a coupon. I think all of them offer coupons that work on a recurring basis. For example, my accounts with Hawk Host are regularly $5.95 per month, but a 25% off recurring coupon brings it down to around $4.67.

You have about a million options most of which are owned by EIG (A Small Orange, Bluehost, HostGator and many other formerly great independent hosts).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group

I'll ++ Hawkhost and Liquid Web (Storm) which I have had good experiences with. Hawkhost's performance is not as good but it is cheap and support is very good ime.

For reseller I currently use Dathorn which no one has heard of but is great and it is WHM/cPanel & SSD based - performance and support are excellent.

And for small high quality sites which don't require cPanel medialayer.com is top tier in all regards.
