Best shared hosting with cPanel and Monthly plan?

Paperchase,

Could you tell me what you mean when you say you want him to get the full experience? I'm asking because I have been doing research on here and other places and it seems the consensus was that dedicated hosting was best. Please let me know the difference. Thanks!

I still use HostGator because I'm a huge fag, but in all honesty I've had no problems with them. The best part about HostGator is whenever I don't want to do something simple like fix a rogue WordPress install that got hijacked by SQL injections and shit I just email support and they do all the work, can't put a price on that.

I used to use Hawkhost but man they've been on the decline lately. Sites get hacked too easily.

I have a bunch of sites on there, why do you think it was the host?
I use several shared web hosts but I'll have regular wordpress install with a few plugins on different hosts. It always seems like the sites hosted in hawkhost get hacked with injected viruses and etc. Just from experience.

Grid hosting from media temple starts at 25$. Very stable and support is just pure awesomeness.

A true mentor would offer challenges and obstacles to overcome

Sorry for the delayed response on this. He is just a n00b getting started in the game, a dedicated server would be overkill for him at this point.

By getting the full experience, I mean I want him to change his nameservers, install wordpress, set-up automated backups, etc.

I use Hawk Host, MDDHosting, and Downtown Host for some of my sites. They all offer a monthly payment option. Uptime has been good for all of them. My experience with support is limited, so I can't comment on that. However, they do have a good reputation at webhostingtalk.com, which is why I chose to use them. I've had accounts with each of them for several years.

If you decide to use any of these, look for a coupon. I think all of them offer coupons that work on a recurring basis. For example, my accounts with Hawk Host are regularly $5.95 per month, but a 25% off recurring coupon brings it down to around $4.67.

I'm having to move away from Downtown Host, so I can no longer recommend them. I just wanted to update this in case anyone checks these old posts for hosting recommendations. I know I have found hosts through posts like this and don't want to give bad advice.

I pay like $100 a month for my dedi from OVH (well, soyoustart now) including monitoring and hardening by accunet, cpanel, and a bunch of other addons I need. Get one, it'll make your life easier, make it so you only have 1 hosting bill to pay, and able to create reseller accounts for friends.

lol @ Hostgator anyone who recommends Hostgator I'm sorry is a fucking idiot.

For a VPS: LiquidWeb or Knownhost (both have rapid support)

For shared:

Glowhost (SUPER Rapid Support)

Or

Bigscoots

Asmallorange is owned by HG so I would just stay away. I used to use them though for small 1 site plans at $35 a year.

From what I understand the owner of HG purchased ASO on his own, HostGator itself didn't absorb ASO and they're still functioning as separate entities. I've been a customer both before and after the purchase and the level of support I've gotten has been unchanged.

People have great experiences with shitty shared hosts, shitty experiences with great shared hosts... What really makes the difference imo is the support staff. Most of their hardware is going to be more or less the same, hell 90% of smaller shared hosts are probabally renting servers from the save couple companies, so it's the support that sets them apart.

Having said that, NodeMelon and aSmallOrange have the best support in my experience.

Set him up with a Linode. Its a little weird to setup but its all I use.

Edit: Forgot to mention. I have never opened a ticket with the support team that took more than 10 minutes to get a response from them.
