On Saturday, the UN estimated that 4 million people were affected by the flooding in Pakistan. By Sunday they revised that estimate to 6 million people. Today, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that over 13 million people are affected.

It is no wonder that a UN officials are saying this is bigger than the 2004 tsunami. In fact, that would make it bigger than the combined number of people affected by the Tsunami, Haiti earthquake and 2005 Kashmir earthquake...combined. Make no mistake: this is the worst natural disaster in recent history.

We don't really care about this disaster because our culture/media has desensitized us.

Most news headlines that grab our attention hit us hard and fast the first time we see it. Columbine, 9/11, Virginia Tech, etc.

This one crept up on us slowly. We're not used to shit like that. We want CNN to hit us with headlines HARD AND FAST!!! Wha-bam bam bam!

Says a lot about humanity and how the media is changing how we think.

You know what else is interesting though?

Remember wikileaks? Some of the documents revealed the Pakistanis were fucking us over, taking our money and helping the Taliban. Now this happens and they are crying for US aid.

How much aid is the Taliban sending them for all their love and support?

Some of the article comments are interesting too.

drake123 where is your Saudi Arabian friend, Chinese friend, Iranian friend, Gulf friend ????? Only AMERICA is there in the time of your need.

I ain't sayin' they don't deserve aid. I'm sayin' if they want to plead for our aid, they gotta try to stop killin' our boys.

And just how many worldwide are affected by hunger?

In any case I'm desensitized to numbers coming out of that region as time and time again stats have been greatly exaggerated out of that region as well as assault footage even faked and aired by major media outlets. So after a while their own exaggeration hurts them when it comes time to bring awareness of a real disaster.

NPR was throwing 20 mil number around today? Also mentioned they are in the second wave of a monsoon cycle and a third is on the way.

I guess it's plausible, as of 2008 their population was estimated to be 166 million (up from 128million in '94)

Can you imagine the rate of growth if they weren't blowing the shit out of each other?

In the mosque thread I asked who donated the highest percent of their GDP to Haiti. The answer is Saudi Arabia, so I'd imagine that they would donate for this also.

maybe they should can their nuclear program and start acting like a civilized fucking modern nation.

To me disasters are rated in deaths not "affected". No, those numbers are not deaths. The tsunami is still prob the winner in recent history.

They hide the taliban, kill our soldiers, and then expect us to bail them out. What a huge set of stones. What's next, are they going to start hitting up India for aid?

The common who are affected are just like us. Maybe they vote but if doubt if all 20 million cheered when 911 happened.. Maybe there are lots of haters who hates the west and India and Israel but I would disagree that all the pakistanis are haters...

Ok so your retard bros blew our building full of people, so your retard president fucks us over by supporting the talibans ... So your fucking clerics are so insensitive u wanna build a mosque near the wtc ......

But we are no different if we say your 20 million ignorant guys are getting fucked by the rains ...so go get fucked....

Okthxbye
