I created a review site with Dreamweaver and installed Wordpress on a subdomain so that I could blog and have fresh content for the search engines. The reason why I did it this way is because due to my limited design skills this is the only way I know how to create either kind of site. My question is, will having a blog on a subdomain help the primary domain rank higher in the search engines?

I now do it /blog instead blog.domain.

However, anchor keywords in your blog to you deeplink pages. Yes, it will help.

I do this for eCommerce sites since there is a lack of content and/or updates. Always done well for me.

it depends what you mean by 'rank higher'.

The subdomain = separate site so would have to an extent different metrics and 'authority'. So you could link to main domain using keywords but these wont be as powerful as from another domain / ip group etc.

If you mean will it help rank better because of higher inbound links to the domain then not really a www.reviewsite.com/blog would work better then blog.reviewsite.com.

This si just my understanding prehaps a more SEO inclined member can better rationalise / explain it.

Okay, I did blog.domain.com but it sounds like domain.com/blog might be better. I was mostly curious whether the search engines view them as one site or two. It sounds like the best I can do is get backlinks out of the blog however.

Move the blog over to /blog. I always do it this way when going it for SEO purposes.

worth doing now to save you the redirects later :-)

blog.mydomain.com is like having another mydomain.com - its like having a fresh start

mydomain.com/blog will help you rank your keyword better because it is inside your mydomain.com

i prefer /blog.

Correct. When building links do it to /Blog but if its a page you want to send people to you can tell them Blog.domain.com so you'll still want to have it. Also, with the redirect you'll now get credit for both methods of links.

The others have already pretty much said all there is about rank and authority, but from a purely end-user point of view, you may want to do both.
Have the blog accessible both from domain.com/blog and create blog.domain.com and redirect it towards /blog.

Yes You Can Increase page rank of home page Through your blog.domain.com
You have to put Some Informative contents on Home page & need internal links on blogs Which redirects to Home page this could help you to increase page rank of Home page also..

Most search engines rat each url seperate my suggestion is on your website ive found to get fresh content put in an RSS feed and linke it to feeds that pertain to your targeted keyword

Thanks guys. Harvey, so I wouldn't actually post content onto the blog.domain.com right? I just create two subdomains but only post content on the domain.com/blog site? What is the advantage to this?
