Body Transformation Competition

These retarded 5X5s are "strength" "training". That is "strength", and that is "training" for you. Nobody is deliberately trying to injure themselves. Not sure what you re trying to say, but please keep your expert opinions to yourself and not be derailing. We already had that discussion already.

Lol, I was asked for my input on training.. I gave it. Not sure what the problem is, nor do I really give a fuck. But OK, I won't "derail" the body transformation thread by talking about training.

OK so olympic athletes train heavier than I thought, excuse the fuck out of me.. but if you think that by lifting heavy, you're not putting more stress on your body that you will feel 20-30 years down the road.. I don't really know what to tell you other than good luck bros.

I never said it didn't work btw, just that it wasn't necessary and that it increases your chances of doing permanent damage to your body (especially if you're a consistent gym rat) Not sure how you could argue with that. I know for a fact it isn't necessary to train super heavy to get "jacked" from my own experiences and those of my training partners.

Doing a strength program 3 days a week with some level of sense (i.e. not grinding out 5 deadlift reps which are far too heavy for your ability) will not fuck your body up.

You're wrong.

Keep at it, and holler at me when you're 50.

but really, I don't care how you train, was only giving my input due to someone asking. Was hesitant to do it at all bc I know where these threads tend to go... no where.

Carry on chaps

I'm wrong? Back it up with a study, or studies, showing that strength training when you're young will fuck you up when you're older.

I've had a look for anything proving it and have come up with blanks, so I'd love to hear more than anecdotal evidence from you, for I have plenty of that myself.

I know several 70-something year old powerlifters who have trained their entire lives who have never had problems, beyond the standard injuries powerlifters get (torn pecs, etc) but they all recovered from them.

These guys are far more active and healthy than 90% of 70 year olds I see, and are still lifting today.

No.

Train how you want. You may be just fine training the way you train, and you like it so stick with it.

I just decided, after years of focusing on nothing other than strength and muscle size, to shift focus to longevity and health first, and vanity second. My goals now, are to minimize downsides and maximize upsides. That's really all I'm saying. Train how you enjoy.. almost anything works with persistence and adequate nutrition.

Training is entirely over talked about, imo. Be consistent, train hard, rest, provide nutrients for repair and energy.... and do whatever the fuck you want in the gym... it matters less than people think.

Now if you're an elite level BB, then yes, every little edge you can get makes a big difference.. but if you're just wanting to look and feel better, don't over think that shit.

I could tell you about all of the BBs I've met who would represent the opposite side of that argument, still wouldn't prove shit.

You know this how?

I can't say for certain, but I highly doubt an olympic trainer is having their athlete do many one rep max squats. I could be wrong, as I haven't checked.

Either way, my point stands... there is no reason to lift weights that are so heavy that you can lift them only 1-5 reps. Increasing your chance of injury and and the wear and tear on your body. If you're a summer beach workout kinda guy, then OK whatever... but if you're in the gym seriously year round... yes, it's "retarded", IMO.

Ran for a Big 12 track team lol.
