Weren't like 60,000 barrels of oil spilling per day? I mean, it's great they got it stopped and all, but how the fuck are they going to clean this abortion?
It's not exactly stopped. It's just now at a manageable level where it can be burned off or offloaded to barges without having it continuously spill into the gulf. It also allows them to stop the flow completely for a day or two in the event a hurricane blows through.
This is only temporary (possibly). Theyre studying the pressure of the oil beneath the cap for fear the entire ocean floor is unstable and going to cave in, making this leak trivial. I think 48 hours is the length of time needed to confirm the pressure isnt going to explode out of the sea floor.
