BP Stock Set To Increase?

Geeze guys, I mentioned how you would be wise to buy put options nearly three days after the spill story broke.

Am I the only one here kinda enjoying this debacle?

Well if they end up going bankrupt who's going to pay for the whole cleanup process, pay people who've lost their jobs and all that jazz? But of course, I'll take what you said into consideration, maybe I'll just short them. I hope the top level executives get in trouble, but I also don't want to see the company as a whole collapse (think about how many jobs they provide to people).

i see what you are saying, but i feel this incident is a wake up call and is bringing to the forefront some major issues that need to be addressed, a) that big businesses need to be regulated better, b) that we should be more conscious of who we work for and c) that being dependent on oil means we're risking not only people's lives directly, but ultimately destroying our planet and our society. if people are going to buy oil and work for oil companies, then they should realize the risk involved. i mean, i almost have no sympathy for them either. they are part of a machine that i detest. and honestly, if you're working for BP, then apparently you are risking your life.

why do you think people protested against BP moving into the Gulf in the first place? imagine if environmentalists didn't lobby to force them to drill at a distance from the shore? the root cause of the explosion (as I watched BP admit on C-Span during a hearing yesterday) was their lack of safety precaution, which would have happened no matter where they drilled. Exxon doesn't have such a terrible safety record and they've even had spills. so what's BP's problem? they just really don't care about anything besides money.

don't invest in these guys, they're bad news.

i'm a capitalist. but there are tons of other ways to make a profit that don't suck.

^ Just out of curiosity, would you place a bet on a dog fight to the death?

Would you invest in war on your home country if you're not living there? Would you flip your money if you knew 10 kids are being killed for their fresh organs?

.. . .You just caught wind of it happening you're not partaking you're just making money as it's occurring...? Stupid comparisons I agree but I guess i'm testing my own morals here too... Can't seem to let myself buy into this.

EDIT: I'll stay outta dis thread now - sorry boyz.

I wouldn't even bet on the ponies and that's legal! Too much variance and lack of control.

Would you invest in war on your home country if you're not living there?
Would I invest in companies profiting from war? Hell yes, think Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, KBR...

Would you flip your money if you knew 10 kids are being killed for their fresh organs?
I don't know how I'd make money off of that, never said I'd break the law...

^ Ok fair, points taken - and will have to agree with some to an extent. Sorry to interrupt with my shit. Carry on.

Lulz @ your identity crisis

it's an identity crisis to believe in a different type of capitalism than you? so it's black or white, you either only care about money or you only care about society? why does being a capitalist mean you have to believe in economic anarchy? regulation is what keeps people from destroying the world, it doesn't mean there's no room for profit and growth.

You are no capitalist. A true capitalist would let the free market 'regulate' businesses instead of depending on a corrupt, self-serving government to do it. Let the free market punish your evil corporations by ceasing business ties.

The only true way to hurt capitalist enterprises is to cut off their stream of profits the natural way - quit buying their products.

And yes, you have one hell of an identity crisis.

Time to go work at a call center, bro.

My Uncle made a killing during the Phillip Morris lawsuit.

After all, people are still addicted to cigarettes and oil. I'd wait a bit longer, I think more bad news is to come, but these guys will still be sellin you that oil.
