Bros Can You Sign This Petition To Bring Back Jeremy Clarkson

This is completely different and even hardly a negative PR in that sense.

Yeah, exactly what I was going to say. Apple releasing a high end version of their smart watch is not negative PR.

I swear, the level of shortsightedness of some people never fail to amaze me.

Shortsightedness? You said it was a negative PR stunt on Apple's part. It wasn't.

Except that it was.

The controversy and buzz from the $10k model (that next to no one will buy) is what is helping to fuel the sales for the $350 that Joe Everyman will line up outside of Apple stores to purchase.

Yes, they'll sell a few $10k models. But any revenue from them is a pittance compared to the hundreds of thousands of $350 models.

Apple knows they need a major push to get people to buy wearables...a largely fringe technology at this point that has not been widely adopted.

This stunt is just one of the arrows in their quiver for the watch. This stuff doesnt happen by accident. Have you ever spoken to a competent journalist? 85%+ of their breaking stories happen from tipoffs...whether they realize it or not (or care) is neither here nor there.

And it is considered a negative publicity stunt as well because they're fully expecting - counting on, in fact - the hordes of critics, cynics and straight up haters driving page views and comments to tech, fashion, and news sites that skeptically cover the watch.

Controversy brings attention, attention brings familiarity, familiarity breeds fans, fans make purchases.

"Oh my god, princess Diana is dead!"

Beach Affiliate: *urrrghh it's just a PR stunt for the royal family, wake up you goofball*

Oh hey, look! Marketers falling for marketing.

At least he saw through it. #cmonman

You do realize that the most successful brands in the world regularly use negative PR stunts regularly right?

Oh, you didn't realize that? Ok, then.

Hey, totally unrelated but did you hear about all the commotion over Apple's $10,000 watch?

Blogs and news outlets (and social media, of course) are all talking about how dumb it is, what a waste, no one will buy it, blah blah blah

Apple...you know that struggling franchise...they'd never pull a negative PR stunt to create buzz.

Right?

Nah. Never.

So now that JEREMY CLARKSON HAS BEEN FIRED, do you care to rescind your comments that it was a marketing stunt, gentleman?

BBC sacks 'Top Gear' presenter Jeremy Clarkson - CNN.com

It must have been a marketing stunt for Jeremy Clarkson's new, as-of-yet-uncontracted show to be made on ITV or Channel 4 or some other station he hasn't quite thought about yet.

Pure genius on Clarkson's fists part.

False flags all around.

Yep I stand corrected.

"The official military television station of the Russian Armed Forces, Zvezda (Star), said it had invited the axed BBC celebrity to visit Russia to discuss the proposal next month."

My shortsightedness is going to be the death of me. It was all a ploy to promote his Russian military state TV show for tank enthusiasts. Who would have thought they would match his 14 million pounds a year pay cheque!

I can understand why the American folk here would think it was a marketing ploy because you're surrounded by a cesspool of uninhibited capitalism, but a government owned TV station isn't going to pull some bullshit like that. Nor are they playing favourites based on earning potential.

There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations.
Lord Hall, BBC director general

As if any CEO of a private corporation would say that lmao.

No need to be a teeny weeny penis.

I actually logged in and dug up this thread today just to come in here and admit it looks like I was wrong.

When you study and manipulate media as much as I do week in and week out, it's really easy to get jaded and start connecting dots everywhere...even if there's no dots to connect.

So yeah, I was wrong this time. It happens. *shrug*

Congratulations, brah. You won the prize.

Thing is, look at Jonathan Woss, Adrian Chiles (praise Allah in that case) etcetc.

Point being, BBC might look like some BS but realistically this IS the end of his career as we know it. Was a good run tho. On the plus side at least TG wasn't done to death any more than it already was..

0 sympathy for the man in question. Suspect the fact I enjoy his material raises more questions about my moral fibre than anything else... Also lulz @ the Ryan Holiday suggestions ITT.

JC if you're reading this, PM me 4 YT JV yo..

Unless of course you are an obvious pedo, then we'll let you stay for 40+ years.

Jonathan Ross is booked for a chat show with ITV until end of 2015. Russell Brand is doing better than ever. No one likes Adrian Chiles.

I mean can people who oppose him really be called SJW? IIRC, the guy punched his producer over a cheese sandwich. This among other racist allegations would be more than enough to put anybody else in the world out of a job.

In regards to the racist allegations, are you referring specifically to this incident? If so, he called him a 'lazy Irish cunt'. Not racist.

Really?

Under the circumstance I'd say it's pretty racist/xenophobic man. Delivery is everything. It's one thing calling a mate a name in jest and another thing entirely if it's said in anger, and well, since he punched the bloke...

The 'eenie meenie' on the other hand wasn't in any way. Just a generational thing.. I was brought up with 'tigger' and it didn't even occur to me that it was anything else until not that long ago, lol. Innocence.

EDIT: Fun story, recently in Philly some nice fellow heard my accent, asked where I was from and then kindly proceeded to tell me that he's IRA from Belfast etc. I'm too young to really have been affected by that shit, but it still got right under my skin. Not nice at all. JC *is* old enough to remember, and hardly seems like a United Colors of Benetton rep.
