Hey,

Any of you take pride in your cans? Looking for the best sound quality around £160-300

Mainly all genres I listen to have a high amount of bass so I'd like decent bass response.

I've been looking at the Grado SR-125's

Play.com - Buy Grado SR-125 Headphones online at Play.com and read reviews. Free delivery to UK and Europe!

All reviews basically say they are epic for the price though I read one saying they started falling apart after a few years. Apart from that I'm not sure, I've been told I should be going with Grado, Sennheiser, AKG or some other company.

Any suggestions? I don't give a fuck about noise cancelling or style (though ^ those look damn sexy) just want the best quality sound (I may even invest in a pre-amp). If theres no good alternatives I'll probably go for the Grado's as I don't really mind if they start falling apart after 4 years if they really are as good as people suggest.

Those look OK but the frequency response is a bit meh at only 20hz to 20khz. Have you looked that the Shure lineup? They're reasonably priced and sound great and have a 5hz to 30khz response. Plus they are burly and aren't going to be falling apart very easy.

The downside is that most models have leatherette cups which I hate. But this new model comes with velour pads...

They also make fantastic earbuds for travelling.

$150. They ain't as good as Bose, but since I tend to drop shit while working since I forget about the real world (I've gone through 2 of these over... 4 years I think?). Plus, sound quality difference isn't that much compared to the price difference.

Are you using a headphone amp? If not, go make some more monies and look at a Burson HA-160 or the cheaper NuForce Icon HD. As far as the cans, I'd look at a Beyerdynamic model that fits your budget or a good deal on a Sennheiser HD650 at the upper end of your budget. Everybody's sound tastes are different - go hit up some reviews where people are jizzing just as you would. Check out head-fi.org as well.

How about some Custom in-ear headphones?
You can get some starting from ~$250. Haven't tried any of these, but they seem awesome.

I myself use [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-SCS-SCBP3-5-Skullcrushers-Subwoofer-Headphones/dp/B000OYFOVM"]Skullcandy Skullcrushers Subwoofer Headphones[/ame]
They are definitely budget, but probably not for an audiophile..

just ordered a headphone amp, and been thinking about getting some grados, though I'm not a fan of the on ear style, shit hurts after a few hours. Might just go big and get some ridiculous sennheisers

I've always been a fan of my trusty inexpensive Sennheiser HD's.

Not sure if you'd consider them 'audiophile' but they sound damn good, they're bassy and do a great noise cancelling job. Plus the long ass spiral telephone cord is great.

Man, those Sennheiser HD650's look fantastic. Thanks for the help. I was gonna revisit gearslutz and ask but I thought I'd try WF first.

I would never suggest anybody buy a pair of Skullcandy's ever. I know so many people that have had them break on them + have been through multiple sets.

Also, not a fan of in ear headphones. The only pair I've ever felt were comfortable/non intrusive enough to stick into my ear was the free 'Creative' ones that came with my laptop

Thanks for the suggestions. I really like those HD650's. The AKG 702's look quite nice aswell but seem massive, nicer price aswell though. I'll post up when I've checked out a few more and decided

Sennheiser HD800 just look like the end all of epic headphones. /me needs more profit

Ok so im not a big audiophile kinda guy but am curious about these "cans" and your reasons for using them? Whats the main reason for getting these? Is it for recording work? So no one hears what your listening to (porn) or you think shit just sounds
better in them than normal speakers? Never used them always been intrigued by them. So why should I go buy a pair right now?

^ General purpose. I use KRK6's monitors at home but I've decided to go to university next year so I'll need a more personal replacement. The KRK's were initially bought when I was heavily involved with music but these days I'm mostly just a listener. I really appreciate good quality sound and could never go back to listening full time through shitty speakers/headphones. I'd prefer listening through a good soundsystem over headphones any day but at uni thats not going to be too feasible, and they'll be useful for now when people are sleeping.
