I've been reading lately about this technique called 'bum marketing' and wanted to know if anyone here uses it and if it's worth it.And possible give some tips if the answer is yes :P .

(before someone tries to throw something at me , I did search first , but:
1.the forum software doesn't search 3-letter words (bum) and
2.from google:[ site:wickedfire.com bum marketing ] I have found just one topic that addressed the topic, and was shit...3 guys were all saying that they thinks it sounds nice, they are trying it , but nobody spoke about if it's actually working)

From what info I've gathered , it goes like this:
  1. Find a niche you could write an article. The niche is supposed to have very low competition, but still gather a nice amount of searches per month.
  2. Write an article about a certain topic in the niche chosen, and be careful to optimize for one long tail phrase.
  3. Submit the article to one of these sites: Ezinearticles.com, Goarticles.com, Searchwarp, Wordpress.com, Squidoo.com.
  4. Find a related product which is very related to the article you're writing to promote.
  5. In the bio box (or whatever the box about the writer is called) write something about you ,and then follow up with a phrase that suggests them to follow a link.(link that would obviously lead to the product you've chosen to promote,or a landing page promoting it on your website).
  6. ...Profit ?
I've read about all these steps a bit more detailed here:
bummarketingmethod.com/Article_Marketing.html (no hyperlink :P ).

I would love to know if it's possible to make money this way,and by money I mean :yin-yang:that I would be very happy making 300$/month - 10$/day.Is that feasible ?
How much work would that require (I could spend about 6 hours a day doing this) for that amount of money ?

Also,additional questions:
  • Should we link to the advertiser's landing page , or make one ourselves ? Or to link to there page, but redirect trough our website?
  • What kind of offers would work best for this kind of traffic ? leads, sales ?
How to choose a good long tail phrase so that we both have a good rank (1-5 on Google) and get some traffic per month. (how many searches per month should the long tail phrase have , and how many competitors )

Thanks and happy flaming :yin-yang: !

PS:I do have my own domain and hosting , good html/css knowledge and moderate php knowledge (coupled with a nice cms , I can get pretty much everything I want done :) ),I know some SEO and I'm not afraid of learning new things. So the basic resources are there...

I've experimented with it a little bit. I'd say I average $15-$30 per article that I write for my offer. The offer I promote is a pay per lead if they sign up for the free trial, and also a larger commission if they pay to sign up before the trial is over.

I never send them directly to the merchants page, always my landing page. One thing that helps me is that the offer I promote is in a niche that involves some strategy, and with the right strategy people can make money at it. So every article I write centers around a specific strategy involving the niche. They go to my site for more info. I tell them how they can make money doing this, and explain why the offer I'm promoting is the best way to get started.

It's decent money, and I'd say that if someone felt like writing articles all day that a pretty decent full time income could be achieved, with the right offers and marketing skills. As for specifics on how much money you'd make, I have no idea, and no one else does either. It's going to vary based on your offer, the search volume of your keywords, the traffic to your article, your writing ability, and too many other variables to list.

So, can you make decent money? I'd say yes. But, it seem more like a constant "job" than truly passive income to me.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Bum Marketing is actually A LOT of work and not for lazy people.

Sure it's cheap (monetarily speaking), but it'll eat up your time. You'll be constantly writing, submitting, writing, submitting, writing, submitting, writing, writing, writing. Then repeat that about 10 times per day just to make a little bit of money.

If you want to use Bum Marketing to make $300/mo., you should be able to do it easily. But, don't plan on doing anything else that month.

Like scottspfd82 said, you'll basically be writing articles as your full time job.

The fact that it is hard work doesn't deter me.I have 2 long-term projects in mind, but unfortunately I need to secure something , and this is a short term solution that would solve the problem I have. So I'm planning on doing this only for about 2 months.I don't care if it's not passive income , I just need to make this work to reach a very important goal of mine.

1.Best performing offers:
I assume the best (as in safest) way to go is to choose some that pay per lead.(True/False?) (I'd bet you'll say that it depends on the niche :P ).

2.Topics or Offers first?
Do you first find a subject to write about(keyword research) and then search for an offer to fit it OR first search for an offer to promote, and then think of what to write for it ?

3.Submitting the same article in multiple directories:
Also , is it good to submit the same article to multiple directories at the same time , or that's a highly unrecommended thing to do ?

4.Best article directories:
Do you have preferences over any of the article directories mentioned above , in any order ? Or have some links to some really good ones that I missed ?

PS:Hey Scott, I really love the simple layout and nice color scheme on your blog :) .

Has anyone used other writers for this? Buy a $5 article - make $15-$20 from it? Seems to make sense.

I can't be bothered to search for the thread, but the guy that's doing the free article promo seems to have a service that could be ideal.

Well, from what I see , you have to make an article AND a landing page for it. So add that too to the total cost :P .

Yeah, but you could write (or have written for you) a load of articles promoting the same product. For example a series of articles about different aspects of PPC all leading to say, a landing page promoting Yahoo or whatever.

You can find inexpensive writers in foreign countries, so, in essence one could make money off of BUM Mktg. I would suggest augmenting this with other forms of marketing to round out your efforts

The problem here is that in order to convert you must have good articles that presell and rank for the right keywords.

If the guy writing them could write articles that work, I can't see why he'd want to keep writing them for others at $5 a pop instead of concentrating on earning money for himself.

I could be wrong here though, I haven't personally tested outsourcing the article writing part of it.

By far the best article directory for high search engine rankings in Google is Ezine Articles and if you optimize your article correctly you can appear on the first page even for competitve keywords with over a million listed websites.

The problem is that Ezine Articles don't allow affiliate links or even redirects to be included in your article so its essential to create a landing page on your own website.

I prefer to direct visitors to a squeeze page and collect leads so that I can follow up with them multiple times instead of just a one time sale.

Submitting your articles to all the directories is good for getting one way links to your website and improving your rankings but if you want high quality traffic you only really need to submit to Ezine Articles and Go Articles.

Ebook Writers

You're taking about paying $5 for writers to do an article. Anyone know where to find a listing or directory of willing writers?

Greetz

Wait a minute. You want to make $300 per month. You're willing to work 6 hours per day. Assuming you take weekends off, even in February (28 days) that's $2.50 per hour.

McDonald's kills that -- plus you get all the fries you can eat.

You're making quite a few assumptions there .
Now,first thing:there's only one McDonalds in my town(few chances to get employed there).
Second:they pay minimum wage for full-time work, which in my country amounts to the incredible amount of 136$ after taxes are deducted. That is for 8$ a day, making burgers, washing toilets, and getting bad treatment from employers. :repuke: All in all , it pays under 1$/hour of work (about 0.8$ actually).
Third:I wouldn't get hired anywhere at the hours I'm planning to work.(weird shedule).
Forth:I see bum marketing as a good opportunity to actually learn to write good copy(and test it) without spending money on PPC.

Oh...and I don't really like junk food :P .

Now,back to our business.Does anyone have answers for the questions I posted on the previous page ?:P

Indeed I would agree with BarneFife to a certain extent as you could write a shit load of articles and have them stored for your own website but as we all know that intails a lot of work also. Some people are major content with their $5 or $10 for doing something that comes natural to them and most of all they enjoy it.
Yoink*Gasp*, For $10 an article can you be more specific? What are you capable of writing about?
Can you write about any subject and how long are your articles? Is the material absolutely original and written by you?

Any link to your past written articles?

PM me if you like to ellaborate
